Hi everyone: I have noticed lately that the neighbours cats are using my gardens for a litter box.I have heard that spreading cayene pepper on the gardens will get rid of them. Will this harm the cats.I don’t want to hurt them.Just get rid of them. Any other suggestions out there that work.I will try just about anything.(lol)

I use old rose cane trimmings for mulch to keep them out of some beds but I fear there is no complete deterent for those wandering cats.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate your help on this.I tried the rose cane trick one year at our other house and everytime I did something in the garden I got thorns in my fingers.I think the cats just sat back and laughed at me. I will start saving my coffee grounds today.Hope they work. Can they harm any flowers or bulbs in the garden?

There are also ultrasonic products and a device called the scarecrow that work for cats but also for anything else that moves. The scarecrow detects movement and gives a squirt of water in the direction of the animal…This will not hurt them but will do the trick however if you have pets/birds or anything else in the garden they may come victim to the water squirt as well.

I don’t know about the coffee, but the Cayenne really works. I have also trapped feral cats because they are an invasive species that hunt andkill native species in my yard. I haven’t caught a pet yet, but when I do, I’ll give it back to the owner with a polite request to keep it inside. The feral cats are picked up by calling the local animal control folks.

Hey, and if you know who belongs to these cats, you could always go and plant catnip in their gardens…LOL.

Anyone tried motion-detector spray heads on cats? I know they hate a spray bottle of anything wet, so why not try applying that in the garden as well?
