you have such a beautiful collection of flowers! Have you ever shown us a wide-angel shot of your yard? -- - Debbie, SW Ontario Canada (USDA Hardiness Zone: 5a) http://www.execulink.com/~yohan |

Hmmm, I thought I had. It is a small lot, but I try to use as much of it as I can. I’ll try to get another few shots that show more of the limited space we have. -- jroot |

Great shots, jroot. It’s sad to see the magnificent peonys on their last hurrah….....But more blooms ahead. I really like the pink poppy, the one I have has a purplish hue to it and it’s not my favorite colour. All the roses are great right now, aren’t they? Any of your blooms could be framed, they’re so pretty. -- 'To plant a Garden is to believe in Tomorrow' |

I came home from a wonderful day celebrating July 4th with my extended family at my sister’s 40th anniversary. The sun was low, and the temperature was marvellous, so I grabbed my camera and took some wider shots, as requested. We sold the big house, and now are in a smaller subdivision overlooking the Eramosa River. Being a smaller subdivision, the homes are much closer together, and also being on a somewhat steep incline, use of space here is much more challenging. At any rate, we try to work with Mother Nature. ![]() View from the road

Has any one had experience with Persicaria Polymorpha? There was an interesting article in the Toronto Star today about it. From what I can see, it is non invasive, and will grow in almost any soil, preferring sun or part sun. In spite of my fears that it may be like its relative, Japanese Knotwood, the claims are that it is not so, although it does take up plenty of room. I was thinking that it might be rather impressive in the lower wild garden, behind the peonies near the old pump. It needs something to add punch to the lower garden in mid summer. Any thoughts? -- jroot |

lovely house and you sure are using all the space to garden, terrific, Polymorpha is a wonderful plant and not invasive but it does get huge, 5 feet high and as much wide, its glorious in bloom and smelle like dark honey….easy to reproduce through cuttings…..here is mine in its second year :
here it is as I planted it last year, july 03rd 2008:

Thank you Mario for your recommendation of Persicaria Polymorpha, and for including your photos. I really appreciate it. I think I have just the spot for it, beside the old pump in the lower garden. Bon, the brugs should be out either tonight or tomorrow, weather permitting. I’ll include a shot of them when they grace us with their presence. ;) -- jroot |
