Topic tags/keywords: gardentenders journal gardening calendar

Last month MsDebbieP came to me with an idea of creating a Gardening Journal. I liked it, because I always wanted to create a gardening calendar which would be available for all GardenTenders. The question is: what type of journal would fit best for most of our members? I’ve created a list of forms I would like to add to the journal and you can choose the best ones.

Garden Layout
This form will let you design your gardens on graph paper. A lined page will allow you to create a coding system or write descriptions of the chart you have created on the garden layout.

Next season page
This four-page form lets you list your “to do list“,“wish list“,“do’s & don‘ts list“,“time to move list“ and any other item you’d like to keep track of for the four seasons.

Gardening calendar
Every month has its specific tasks when it comes to gardening. This calendar provides you with room to jot down those key reminders for each month of the year.

Fertilizer schedule page
This form allows you to keep track of fertilizers and other soil care strategies that you use throughout the year. What better way to know what works for you and what is needed for next year then to keep a detailed record. The form will list: fertilizer type, the location, the formula you used and the frequency of the use.

Pest and disease control page
Just like the fertilizer form, you can use the pest and disease form to record what you have done, as well as when and why) and note how effective the methods were. The form will provide space for treatment type, formulas, methods, and frequency used.

Climate records page
A good gardener is prepared for the climate in the specific area. This form will let you recrods precipitation levels and average temperatues for each month. There will be space to record this information for 5 years.

Gardening Resources
What is a record without a list of contacts? This form will help you keep track of resources, contact information, and notes regarding your experiences with each entry.

Looking forward to see the results and your ideas.

I’d like to see something on soil preparation and perhaps composting technique.
I don’t think a calendar would be that useful given the wide demograph of members here.
Perhaps something on growing for cooking to match up herbs and spices with some home cooking.

for the forms (including the calendar), I was thinking that they would be blank. Then you can add your own contents that pertain to your own gardens. That’s how I saw it anyway.

All the “wisdom” can be found here. .then you can record the stuff that relates to what you are interested and use the journal to plan. But, that’s just my perspective.

I already keep a “diary” on my computer so for me, this would be a duplication.

But if folks here need it then it’s a good thing.

Great idea, Michal. My vote is in.

In re Bob’s idea, a growing for cooking cookbook would also be lovely!

good point.

for me, I love computers but my brain/thinking “needs” the process of writing. And I also like being able to take my journal with me, whether it’s just to another room, or in the car for when I have to wait for someone, or to sit outside.
Computers are great—to a point. For me, anyway.

Sure, I want to make the calendar blank, so you can add your own content to each month. Btw. thanks for your ideas, I like them.
