Topic tags/keywords: zone 5 I’m going to be away for a few days with my son, and new daughter-in-law. We are heading off to Montreal and Ottawa, to check out a few good eating places. My son and daughter-in-law are both chefs ( without wheels so I get to chauffeur them LOL ). Guess who’s paying. :( I hope to visit the Montreal Botanical Gardens if the weather cooperates. Maybe I’ll get some nice shots there. There has to be something in the trip for me, right? Talk to you all when I get back. John -- jroot |

You bet. I got a few more shots of the garden, as I was preparing to leave, and get ready for the pseudo garden waterer. http://gardentenders.com/members/jroot/garden#comment-9509 -- jroot |

Lots to see in Montreal and great food! ~ Quebec’s Driver’s New 2007 Handbook ~ 3. The faster you drive through a red light, the less of a chance you have of getting hit. 4. Warning! Never come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it and it will result in your being rear-ended. 5. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork, especially with NB or Ontario plates. With no insurance, the other operator has nothing to lose. 6. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a vigorous, foot massage as the brake pedal violently pulsates. For those of you without ABS , it’s a chance to strengthen your leg muscles. 7. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It’s a good way to prepare other drivers entering the highway. 8. Speed limits are arbitrary figures; given only as a suggestion and are not enforceable in Quebec during rush hour, especially in Montreal. 9. Just because you’re in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn’t mean that a Quebec driver flashing his high beams behind you doesn’t think he can go faster in your spot. 10. Always brake and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tire. This is seen as a sign of respect for the victim. 11. Learn to swerve abruptly without signalling. Quebec is the home of high-speed slalom-driving; thanks to the Department of Public Works, which puts pot-holes in key locations to test drivers’ reflexes and keep them alert. 12. It is tradition in Quebec to honk your horn at cars in front of you that do not move three milliseconds after the light turns green. 13. To avoid injury in the event of a collision or rollover, it is important to exit your vehicle thru the windshield right away. Wearing your seat belt will only impede your hi-velocity escape from danger. 14. Remember that the goal of every Quebec driver is to get ahead of the pack by whatever means necessary. 15. In Quebec, ‘flipping the bird’ is considered a polite salute. This gesture should always be returned. Thank You From, -- Eklectic, Follow my Bliss, South East Ontario 5a |

That is funny. .... and might I say probably true, or at least is seems that way sometimes. Mind you, there are a lot of really good drivers. However I wonder what the ratio is ? ? ? -- jroot |

I’m back now. Dead tired ! Cold and wet with all the miserable weather I came home to. I think running the airconditioner in the car has affected me somewhat negatively. I need to take some antihistimines or have a hot toddy or …. Good to be back home :) Too bad I had to call to miss the corn roast. I was so looking forward to that, but given the way I feel, I thought it best to pass on the kind invitation. So sorry, Horsetail. I hope it went well. -- jroot |

Glad to see you home safe and sound jroot. Allergies are bad this time of year i have found … perhaps because of all the rain although this week looks promising. Were you able to take in the Mtl Botanical Gardens? I visited some years ago and it was not a disappointment. No doubt many improvements since. blooz -- blooz 5b - You can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt. ~author unkown |

Yes, blooz, I did indeed take in the Mtl Botanical Gardens. See the blogs: http://gardentenders.com/members/jroot/blog/552 We had a lot of fun exploring there. Springwood, I missed your question. Sorry about that. Yes indeed they get to cook for us, and we learn a lot from both of them. It is nice to be able to say that we can learn from our children. Tables turned… -- jroot |
