I’d seen these at Lowes for 50 cents each and decided to pick some up. They have a woody stem to them and do not look like annuals at all so I thought I’d take my chances and pick them up.

Size is about 12” tall by 12-16” wide, variegated leaves, semi hardwood branching.

I’ve picked up alot of fun plants from the “OMG, I’m almost DEAD!” rack at Lowes for dirt cheap. So long as they’re just badly treated perennials, it’s well worth it.

This one however is dirt cheap, but only because they don’t have a flippin’ clue what it is. All that’s on the pot is “Accent”, which doesn’t tell much.

Hmmm sort of reminds me of the wood and leaf shape on my forsythia but I never encountered a gold variegation…sure is pretty whatever it is.

Be interesting to chart this one and see what it does next spring/summer. I like the varigated leaf, really pretty. See why you were drawn to it.

Hmm…Silver Leaf Dogwood or Cornus alba Argenteo-Marginata generally has a wider matt (not glossy) leaf with the yellow variegation on the outer edge.

Gooseneck,
Yours is probably the Dogwood Red Twig!
I have both!

My only problem with it being silver leaf dogwood are the leaves. The variegation is dark on the outside with light inside. Certainly isn’t red-twig.

Gooseneck, yes, yours is most likely red-twig.. It’s rather pretty and nice winter interest.

How perplexing.

Pic for size ref.

I’m going to plant them off to the side of the yard in the “holding zone” for those plants where I either don’t have a place for, or need to figure out what to do with. I’m a little apprehensive about planting them in established beds without knowing how they will preform.

May end up being ungodly invasive plants of destruction bent on destroying all living matter within a 20’ radius.

or…

maybe will just grow too large for where I’d stick ‘em.

Well hopefully you don’t have my luck … cuz for sure it would be an “ungodly invasive plant of destruction …”!!! hahahaha!!!!

Just a FYI, this has been IDed as Golden Dew Drop, AKA Sky Flower, AKA Pigeon Berry

Duranta erecta ‘Gold Mound’

Sadly, it really NOT hardy in this zone.

Gladly, it seems to be fairly hardy and not require much water or care.

I’m going to pick up a few pots and toss them in there, then over winter them in the basement with the rest of them.

Well I am glad to hear that you finally got a positive ID on this plant. It sure looks purdy; as I like the leaves. Certainly be worth over-wintering it in your basement. Good luck with that!! :-)
