Good morning, everyone! OK, just a small request…we’re still a relatively small number of active posters, so it’s easy to keep track of cross-thread postings. However, if we ever “bloom” to something the size of LJ, we’ll get hopelessly lost. So I propose a simple solution (you are free to tell me to jump in the lake). When posting a project, please keep all related posts on that same thread. For example, let’s say I posted a project on a new patio, and one of the Debbie’s asked a question. I will answer the question on the same patio thread, rather than answering over on the asker’s personal profile page. If we keep all the posts related to the project (or forum posting, or blog, or whatever) in one location, we’ll accomplish a couple of things, including: 1) Over time, forgetful people (such as myself), will be able to remember the context for certain answers to certain questions Just a thought! I can understand why people would post a response on the person’s profile page—wanting to make sure they see it. Sometimes what I do at LJ is, if I’m responding to a specific question, I’ll send the person a private message to say that I had posted a response. I know that it is on Martin’s “to do” list (not sure where the priority is, though) to have the ability to mark a page to keep tabs on the discussion. But for now, we work with what we have. Nice topic. As for jumping in the lake – It’s a bit cold for that, don’t you think?? :D -- - Debbie, SW Ontario Canada (USDA Hardiness Zone: 5a) |

I have been doing a bit of both … depending. But after some thought, I agree. It certainly will keep us more organized, especially as we continue to grow. However, Deb’s thought/option of sending a private message at least letting the member know that we have answered their question is interesting. But then (I would think) if it is a true question, I would imagine you would go back to that thread to find your answer. exactly GT – the difficulties comes when we have 1000 members with pages of new comments and we lose the discussion and never get our answer. So the idea of starting the good practices now is a really good one. -- - Debbie, SW Ontario Canada (USDA Hardiness Zone: 5a) |

Yup, as I said above, no argument from me … hopefully everyone will agree and begin this practice from here on out; I know I am. -- "A perfect garden is just a garden to be in-perfection. Mornings to work on it and evenings to pause and look at it." Southeast Michigan, Zone 5a/5b |

YEah, In the early days on LJ, i’d get some responses to ?s on my profile page, and with lots of activity its just as easy to miss them there, or wonder what they are in response too. just keep commenting and commenting (and checking the pulse!) Hopefully we’ll have a feature added soon enough to let us know of future comments to posts/projects we can “subscribe too” Facebook has a thing where people post responses on each other’s “wall” and that would be confusing – BUT, there’s a link to see the entire “wall to wall” (both sides of the conversation). Another Blog I’ve read lets you choose to receive notifications of any comments that are made after yours. Most of the time we wouldn’t care to select that feature, but there would be times when we definatley would (to save on constantly checking)... -- southern NH. - smack dab in the middle of 5a and 5b - with lots of shade and full sun, in all the wrong places. |

Not sure about y’all, but I always browse this forum by the Pulse button. It gives me a wonderful timeline of what’s happened since the last time I checked in here. Anyway, I’m part polar bear, so jumping in the lake might be refreshing! Especially if there’s a big tractor tire or keg in there with me! -- Living on the square...Metro Detroit |

Am I missing something here? Am I the only one who remembers what questions I ask of whom in what thread? I mean asking a specific question is different than just contributing to a thread. Do we really need to make it more complicated so that people remember where to look for an answer to a question they asked? And I guess, ditto to a subject matter that you find interesting or full of information (which you can currently mark). I am afraid of ultimately making the site too difficult or cumbersome (sp??) to use. Too many “buttons” and too many categories. “The brain is a terrible thing to waste” ... Maybe I should join Damocles for a “swim” cuz I may have missed the boat here … -- "A perfect garden is just a garden to be in-perfection. you haven’t missed anything Gram. Over at LumberJocks, with 5 -6 pages of content going up over night, it’s pretty difficult to find a conversation that you were following. And sometimes, for me anyway, if I comment on 50 sites in a day, I forget what the conversations were about by the time the response to my question was given – which could take a week, depending on how frequently the member visits the site. It’s really easy now… but add a couple thousand members and phew….. it’s a real test for the old grey power at times! And as for buttons: you are so right. The great thing about Martin’s sites is that they are easy to navigate. He puts a lot of effort into meeting the members’ needs and maintaining the clean look of the site. Deb I see what you are talking about … I took a “trip” (plane ride was GREAT – hahahah!) over to LJ and now have a little better understanding of how our site could grow. Like ours, LJ’s site is easy to navigate and Martin has done an amazing job … KUDOS to Martin!!! I am sure with Martin “in control” of modifications to our GT site; it will remain easy to use. I’m not against change as long as it is really necessary and makes issues better; not more complicated. And as to “D’s” original request … in my mind it’s a great place to begin … everyone keeping their posts on the related thread. The rest will come with time as we grow. -- "A perfect garden is just a garden to be in-perfection. Mornings to work on it and evenings to pause and look at it." Southeast Michigan, Zone 5a/5b |

Hello and we missed you. Glad you are back!!! “LJ” is Lumberjocks.com It is a woodworking site started by the same gentleman (Martin) who created this site. My husband along with a “few” GT members belong to that “group” as well. If you ever get opportunity to check out that site you will amazed at the beautiful work that is done, at all skill levels. Plus the people who belong (like here at GT) are wonderful. -- "A perfect garden is just a garden to be in-perfection. Mornings to work on it and evenings to pause and look at it."
