There has been some loose talk about doing a get together in the fall. Now don’t laugh but it feels like fall up here. The other day when it rained I realy had to look hard to make sure it wasn’t that snowy rain that we get usually in December.Cool nights and hot days; is that not fall???
Any way I digress ; I would love to host any of you that can make it to Fergus for a corn roast, garden talk and if anyone feels like it , a swap.
Here are the choice of dates. August 9,10,23 or 24.It would start in the afternoon.Arrive when you can. We will meet and greet then start the corn about 4 pm. Please bring lawn chairs.
Looking forwrd to hearing from you. Horsetail

Hi Horsetail,

I can make it on the 9th, 23rd or the 24th, but not the 10th. Hopefully, we will be able to decide soon so I can lock it into my calendar. If there is nothing definitive, my “social convenor” tends to book things which interest her. LOL

Map says Toronto to Fergus 1 1/2 hours … but then you have to add traffic and “where” in Toronto etc.
That’s too bad.

Yes, indeed Gooseneck, I was hoping to meet you . :(

From my house to T.O. is 1 hour ( depending on traffic ). To Fergus is a half hour. ( no traffic problems, except maybe this weekend ).

Oh, Gooseneck, I don’t see you on the map, yet. That might have been helpful to tell you some traffic short cuts.

Hi Everyone, It sounds like we are on for the 9 th which is great. I will supply corn , coffee or tea , watermelon. If you have anything else that you would like to bring that would be great.Don’t for get your lawn chairs and anything related to gardening to swap. ( plants ,books, ornaments, tools, seeds, etc.)
And for any who would like to stay over we have room for about 6 or 8 no cost. That way you might be able to see more of the games.
Gooseneck, if you come down hyw 7 it only takes 1 1/2 hours. I do the airport run all the time.lol.

We are coming!

We can come on the 17th or 24th, has to be a Sunday as hubby works Saturdays. Do you mind if I bring him..he will bring his own beer!....this is a must for him, lol, he doesn’t get drunk or anything like that, but tis only fair we bring it. I just won’t drive that far, so he is a must. LOL

I can make a huge homemade potato & egg salad if you would like to go with the corn!

and I will make a huge nametag that says gooseneck, thought it would be a great idea!

Joan

Mike, Unfortunatly Freddy Laker doesn’t fly anymore but most of the other ones do. Zoom seems to be the cheapest. And you can have free B&B. So let me know when I need to do the airport run again. lol. But on a serious note you are very welcome to come for a holiday. My husband and I use to lve in England for 8 years and he still has family over there. We are going over in September to see them. We are going on a gypsy caravan holiday complete with the gypsy cob horse. I am so excited.
Gooseneck, I am realy hoping that the 9 th will work and the beer would be great. Tell him he won’t even have to share with me. lol
Maybe we should all make name tags cause I am REAL slow when it comes to a lot of new names.
Gandma, Can’t I tempt you to some for a weekend???

I WOULD LOVE TO GO TO CANADA AND AMERICA ONE DAY AND THANKS HORSETAIL FOR THE INVITE.
HERE IN THE UK EVERY PERSON OVER 60 NOW GETS A FREE TRAVEL PASS FOR USE ON ALL LOCAL BUS ROUTES NOT INTER CITY ROUTES, BUT I DON`T THINK THEY WILL LET ME USE IT ON THE AIR BUS. IF ANY OF THE GT REGULARS COME TO THE UK AND TRAVEL NEAR OXFORD WE WOULD BE PLEASED TO INVITE THEM FOR A MEAL OR TWO AND DRIVE THEM AROUND OUR LOCAL SITES. WE ONLY HAVE A SMALL BUNGALOW SO WE COULD NOT PUT PEOPLE UP BUT THERE ARE GOOD HOTELS AND GUEST HOUSES NEARBYE.
REGARDS MIKE

oh darn, cannot make it next Saturday and was so looking forward once I realised I could meet my friends on here, would have been so cool, its always nice to see the face you always talk to.

I thought nametags would be good, I am the same with names, plus for me, would have been easier to associate to who we talk to here by our names here.

yes, you could have had beer, he was bringing a 24 to share, he probably would have only had 2, has to drive home….........now you won’t have my potato salad either, shucks!

but thanks soooooooooooo much for the invite, I want pics!

xo

so sorry to have missed it. If only I felt better, I would have gone. Surely, the deluge of rain did not damper the spirit. :) It surely got black here about 2:30. My wife though we were about to get a severe damaging storm. Rained cats and dogs for quite a while, but no damage.

WELL I MISSED OUT ON THE CORN ROAST SO I CONSOLED MYSELF BY GOING TO THE CRICKET CLUB AT TETSWORTH AND LISTENING TO AN ELTON JOHN TRIBUTE BY A GUY WHO CHARGED £500 OR
( 1000 DOLLARS) FOR 90 MINUTES , BUT HE WAS GOOD. I HAD LOADS OF CIDER IN GOOD COMPANY AND AM FEELING VERY HAPPY NOW AT MIDNIGHT. I HOPE YOUR CORN WAS COOKED TO PERFECTION DID YOU GET ANY MEAT WITH IT OR IS THIS A VEGETARIAN CUSTOM ?
I BOTTLED UP ABOUT 30 JARS OF MY SWEET PICKLE THIS MORNING WHICH CONTAINED CAULIFLOWER,ONIONS RED & WHITE, CARROTS, FRENCH BEANS & MARROW ,VINEGAR, BROWN SUGAR & SPICES . SO ALL IN ALL A GOOD DAY I HOPE YOU ALL AS HAPPY AS I AM GOODNIGHT MIKE

Hi Mike, You sound like you had a great time also. The corn was fabulous, just like the seller said it would be.We had some left over so I will cut it off the cob and use it in my winter soups. There wasn’t any meat but wonderful salads and fattening desserts!! In between rain showers we went out and saw my gardens and swapped plants.
I smiles when I read that you used marrow. We don’t have that veg but it is avaiable from a few seed companies but we do have zuchinni which looks the same sort of but tastes totally different and I will be making zuchinni relish next week. Also have you heard of Polish Chili? It is delicious.I’ll post the receipe soon.

Hey, Horsetail, some free advice, so take it for what it’s worth:

This is a public forum, and anyone on the Internet can come straight to your house or call you based on the info you provided here. Totally up to you, but since the roast is over, maybe you could ask one of our Admins to edit your personal details out of this thread?

No harm intended, just concerned over your security. Of course if you have big dogs, no problem! :-)

I realy appreciate the advice. I tend to be nieve when it comes to things like this. I will do what you have suggested. But as one of us knows these parts of the world are not as stright forward as one would think. A road by any name might be a number of roads.

SEEMS LIKE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT TIME ITS FUN JUST READING YOUR COMMENTS. HI HORSETAIL
MARROW IS A BLAND VEGETABLE BUT IT IS GREAT TO USE IN PICKLES AND CHUTNEYS AS IT BULKS UP THE AMOUNT PRODUCED AND ABSORBS ALLTHE FLAVOURS OF THE SUGAR VEGETABLES VINEGAR AND HERBS. I HAVE BOTTLED UP MY SWEET PICKLE INTO 3/4 LB JARS AND I OFTEN JUST USE THEM AS LTTLE PRESENTS TO PEOPLE WHO DO JOBS FOR ME OR VISITORS ITS ALWAYS WELL RECIEVED. IVE HAD A GOOD DAY TODAY AND BEEN TO GREAT HASELY TO THE PLOUGH AND WILL PROBABLY NOW FALL ASLEEP WATCHING ALL THOSE ENERGETIC ATHELETES IN THE OLYMPICS .
REGARDS MIKE
