I came across thi splant recently, and just love the way it grows like crazy and the shade it creates. I am going to be planting a couple this spring, already bought my seeds on ebay http://www.justrluck.net/ricinus/ricinus.htm -- Hooked on Gardening.....Ontario zone 5b |

Yah, but the plant is HIGHLY toxic and poisionous. Hope you don’t have small children … -- "A perfect garden is just a garden to be in-perfection. Mornings to work on it and evenings to pause and look at it." Southeast Michigan, Zone 5a/5b |

last year i grew 1 plant of the red verriety. i’f your concerned about the toxicity of seeds, cut the flowers off. On our farm we have free range fowl who constantly get into the garden, they’ve not had any problems round the plant, and it holds onto it’s seeds well into the post frost season. At my work we grew the tall green ones, that was interesting. first year working with them and planted about 4 times tomany in the space we alotted for them, looked great for about 2 months, byu the end of the summer there was sky scrapers hehe. |

I’ve been growing castors (my pet name for the plant) for years now every year – I bought my 1st set of seeds from ebay, too and ever since I’ve had overproduction of beans – keep giving them out to all neighbours. They are wonderful and grow so fast. No animal ever touched them (cats, dogs, squirrels). I’ve sent them to my Mom in Poland then she “castorized” her entire neighbourhood. Last summer, however, they failed to grow – they miniaturized themselves. I guess I need to buy a fresh batch off ebay ! -- tropicals lover - Katherine, Ontario, Canada (USDA Hardiness Zone: 5a) |

For someone that has just joined, you aren’t asking much are you? Did you even introduce yourself, bother to put your zone in your signature? When you have done all that and posted pics of your garden, if you have one at all, then you can start asking for pictures. Howz that Pictures are only going to people on my pm list from now on. Poiosn control I am sorry you got attacked as soon as you came on the forum Of course this is what the forum is for, for newbies to learn new things about gardening and us older fellas to help If I can If you are a new gardener, you hardly would have pic yet. You just moved into a new place??. Your gardens will take some time to establish . It took me a long time a few seasons in fact I don’t think posting pic on here consitutes being gardner or I didn’t see any rules that said so This is just my 3rd day here and I see all this attacking I hope we are all going to settle down and just relax and enjoy ourselves Stick around, everything will be ok -- NS Zone 5B 200 KM East of Halifax cheers Bunting------Having a place to go – is a home. Bob….please don’t tell me to take it easy! I am sick of yahoos coming on here, and making a bee-line for threads that are controversial to make their 1st post, who does that really without an alterior motive? In an ideal world, you will introduce yourself by telling us all about yourself, and then go through the archives to see what has been said in the past. I was once a newbie here, and I sure as h3ll didn’t do some of the cr4p am getting Anyway….enough of all this malarkey. Looking forward to planting my new purchases from an hour ago. I went for some colour this time around to neutralize all the green I have. Got 2 Hosta plants ( sum and substance that gets big and something Regal ) and some other coloured plants, 12 in total. Bullseye, it’s too bad you’re not posting pics… I always took a stance that this forum is about sharing information on gardening, and maybe showing off a little on our accomplishments. I think we can all recognize that the world is not ideal, so if folks don’t follow a certain protocol by introducing themselves, why is that such a big deal? This site is an evolution from LJ, which has a very common mantra about projects: “no pictures, didn’t happen.” In such a visual hobbyset as woodworking, gardening, and home renovating, pictures are a necessity to help get a point across, help to ask and answer questions, etc. So why purposely exclude the other members of this site from what you know? C’mon and share with us… -- Living on the square...Metro Detroit |

So, if I understand all of this is No pictures, didn’t happen thanks D for clearing this for me. I really did not think it was that way! By the way, I am almost sorry by the sarcasm! Not quite! -- Eklectic, Follow my Bliss, South East Ontario 5a |

Think you got this all wrong Damocles. Anyway there are some people on here recently, that seem to have signed up just for “Trolling” purposes. I don’t really care if people don’t share their photos, but what I have a problem with is these people asking to see other people’s photos, when they can’t be bothered to post theirs or even flippin’ put in their signature where they are located. Take my comments as you wish -- Hooked on Gardening.....Ontario zone 5b |

Continuing to alienate each member of this forum will make you the pariah, not the martyr. Immediately jumping on newbies is not the way to engender a feeling of welcome here. One of the most refreshing things about this particular forum is that there are no official Admins or Mods. Yes, there are our beloved creators who pour their heart and soul into the design and upkeep of this forum, and there is Debbie, who seems to not need sleep at all, but what you don’t see are by-lines under user profiles “Moderator” or “Admin Manager”. The point? This is supposed to be a hobby-based website where people meet to share ideas and experiences. I do care whether people share their pictures, but I’m not going to be a prick about it and accuse people of ulterior motives if they don’t post anything about themselves. This is an anonymous webforum, just like 99% of the other web forums online. To presume that all posters here are going to be completely forthcoming with their personal information such as location/zone/etc. is a bit over the top. About not posting pics, well, Eklectic is right on with her point: if somebody doesn’t have a camera, does it mean they can’t post on this site? It’s taken me over a week to post my pics of my first bloomers, and it’s taken you less than that time to ostracize new members of this board. The statement “take my comments as you wish” is as arrogant as it is flip. If you don’t care, then why the invectives and polemics when someone questions you? FWIW, I do care how you react to this…it is what makes me human. -- Living on the square...Metro Detroit |

Damocles…..thanks for calling me a “Prick”. Well of course everything you spouted there is bollocks, am not going to get into a melee’ with you over this matter! The people you are trying to stand up for, I know from elsewhere, hence the reason I say some of the things in my posts.
