I have boughten from Birds Unlimited a bird feeder, which is squirrel proof. I wanted it mainly for my red cardinals and bluejays. The bluejays are to big of a bird to fit in there, very disappointed because it was recommended for them- However, I think I am feeding all the birds now, love my wrens and was a treat to see them feed their young sparrows and their babies galore, tons of red winged black birds, red cardinal and his mate. Is their a specific squirrel proof feeder that will fit blue-jays? -- Toronto, Ontario |

”love my wrens and was a treat to see them feed their young sparrows ”........now theres a new one I have invested lots of $$$$ into bird feeders and own or have owned just about all of them….......there just isnt a “squirrel proof feeder” that permits all birds to feed. very few are “squirrel proof”. Even worse then a squrrel is a Gracle….........they picked and picked at my triple container finch feeder that has an umbrella until they broke the bottom, and they also picked away at the caged “for small birds only feeder” until it broke. for the most part I have resorted to feeding all the little creatures that live near here. I put corn cobs on a ferris wheel for the squirrels…............free home theater! Cheers -- Central northish Ontario |

We have a corn wheel for the squirrels , as well as their peanut station, a finch feeder in the window, two regular feeders in the yard, plus we scatter seed for the doves. There are times every day when the yard resembles a circus! -- the day you quit learning is the day you quit living. |

I have checked them all, the rest are not squirrel proof, so may just get a different style. The squirrels do get fed, shelled peanuts, the doves can fit onto this bird feeder nicely also, but also spread seed down for those that cannot fit in it. -- Toronto, Ontario |

There’s quite a “pecking order” around a well stocked feeding area I have noticed. -- I want to believe in a lot of things but, in the meantime I have to deal with the truth |

If your feeder has a metal pole I recomend buying a kids slinky toy and attaching it to the top of the pole just under the feeder. It’s a riot watching them climb up to the slinky and spring right down again. -- Bon,Hastings,Ont.....zone 5a....Always room for one more |

I was just reading in “Canadian Gardening” that someone put old stinky shoes beside plants that the deer usually visit and the deer now stay away – and when it rains, the shoes are re-stinkafied for continued use :) -- - Debbie, SW Ontario Canada (USDA Hardiness Zone: 5a) |

To have her in the yard on a regular basis would be worth the birdseed…........As long as she stays out of the garden, that is! -- the day you quit learning is the day you quit living. |

Oh, how I wish you could show us a picture of the squrrel proof feeder. I had a neighbour who bought one from Birds Unlimited. Within 2 days, he had a red squirrel at the feeder. He moved it, because he saw the squirrel would jump from a nearby tree or deck. It was funny watching the squirrel. He was so Pi$$ -- jroot |

god, I wish I could quote! jroot, it is a squirrel proof feeder, yes, the squirrels can climb on it, they are to heavy, that is when the the feeding holes close up, hence the squirrel gets no food and the squirrel will jump back on the ground. There are lots of settings for sensitivity on this feeder, your friend will have to adjust it. Ask your friend to re-do the settings. Your friend should have a manual with this feeder, if not, ask her/him to take it to one of the stores and they can set it. When you have the sensitivity to high, heavier birds such as pidgeons and squireels can fed. see below, this one is mine. -- Toronto, Ontario |
