Last year I was walking down the road where I pick chanterelles and on the walk back I noticed a pile of soil and weeds dumped off on the side of the road. There was a clump of Iris roots amongst the weeds. I wondered if maybe it was just local wild ones but the leaves remaining looked wider than the wild variety. It was late June and sunny so the root was dried up quite badly. I removed the root from the weeds and brought it home, placed it in a bucket of water to soak for a few days and planted it in my front rock garden. I was suprised it survived but an even better suprise it gave me a huge purple bloom this week. -- Xploreorganics, 5b Canada, LFD 06-20 |
