the view along the back deck, mostly Hostas, moss, solomons tears

and the edge of the pool deck. I planted a dozen ferns I got from the back woods and finally they are taking shape….........but my clematis mysteriously died?

my little pond area….......my fav spot both on top of the deck or beside it

one of my lilacs

and my Hosta/Japanese Maple/Japanese pogoda front door garden

I have so many Iris, certainly a beautiful flower but sadly they only last a week or so

and my Favorite

more to come

and more. I dont know what this one is but its pretty

the other ponds

I planted ferns here three years ago and thewy are also taking well. Just behind that and under the Fir tree are a dozen or so specie of Hostas, Ferns, Solomons Tears, and Tiger Lillies.

of course a few Pullets that give us our eggs…..one of these birds lays a double or triple egg, every other day.

and I framed in 1/2 a bay of my four bay barn to house my newest chickens.

and the occupants. As you can see the “meat” chickens are almost ready for the BBQ, should weigh in at + – 10 pounds (the white ones) and the brown/coloured chickens should be laying eggs in another month.

the view of the west fence line of sugar maples

and finally the natural pond tucked into the edge of the forest which has green winged teals at the moment, the odd Canada Goose and Heron.

Thanks for looking

Very nice assortment of iris GT. Your yard is looking really nice with your pond areas. And nothing better than fresh eggs and chicken on the BBQ. :-)

It looks like we have a lot of shade but in fact we have very little as the forest edge has more mosquitoes then I have blood but I have planted more then 300 trees which in about 50 years will bring in the shade.

I also have several kinds of yellow iris, yellow and orange, white. As they go away the lillies will come out. I’ld like some bishops weed to plant around the evergreens away from the house.

As some of you know, my “out laws” have an apartment here. My MIL is a saint and if the world had more people like her I am sure it would be a better place but my FIL is a gardeners nighmare. As I search my personal archives of kind words….......not one applies to him.

This morning he accused me of sabotaging the auto sprinkler system and cutting the wires to the circuitry. He moved the sensor that detects whether its raining or not (if it rains the system doesnt turn on) because yesterday it rained all day and the sprinklers turned on. Last year he moved the sensor under the soffit of the pool house which means it never gets wet which in turn never turns the system off….........so I moved it back to a fence post. Apparently he has since moved it back under the eaves/soffit because he believes it shouldnt get wet, precisly what it was designed to do….....get wet and turn the sytem off.

That said, I no longer help, maintain, or do anything that he is involved in.

Regardless, I appreciate the kind words

Well sometimes you just have to pick your battles … some are just not worth fighting cuz no matter what, you just aren’t gonna win.

Again, Greenthumb your yard is really quite beautiful and all your hard work and love for this place really shows. :-)

GT, What a lovely place you have.
Can I ask how you keep your Hostas looking so good????
I love Hostas and the creepy crawlies like them as much as I do.
Mine get attacked all the time.
My son has 2 Hens and its surprising how many eggs he gets and I get his surplus ones.
As for your FIL, .....count your blessings…..think yourself lucky that your MIL is such a lovely person , you could have had 2 in-laws like him…. there is always a good side to everything if you look for it.

grandmaT…...I no longer see him as a battle, more like a war cry <insert>

Springwood….......most plants are like people, a half day of shade and they are happy, Hostas love a bit of shade once a day. The only good side to my FIL is the top side and only if that side grows grass

thanks to all for the kind words
