A new vertical farm in the downtown area of Toronto, called SkyFarm, could help to feed 35,000 area residents each year. The advantage of the SkyFarm is that the proposed building would only require about 1.32 hectares of land for the 58 story building to sit on. However, it will have about 8 million square-feet of growing space for crops, bringing in the same amount of produce as a 420 hectar farm. The 714 feet structure would bring in an estimated $23 million of revenue each year.

Wow, interesting. I have seen pic of the one in India

My only question of these garden types. How does one harvest the food

A few years ago before I got hurt I had started a small cottage industry in halifax

Apartment dwellers were wanting to grow some veggies on their balcony

I did 2 very large buildings that summer then hurt Chriistmas day of 2000 so that killed that idea as I couldn’t do it froma wheelchair

But before doing it, I had to get permission from the city by laws and building owners, The owners love it

A lot had to be taken into consideration, how much weight will the balcony hold. Soil weighs a lot

well I did the 2 building that year and it was fun

Here is a funny story. A friend of mine lived in one of the apartments and she never gardened before

We had cukes lettuce, carrots peas, beats, Toms we had it all

One weekend I went to visit her. She took me outside on her deck to show me her well looked after garden

Her only complaint was she didn’t have any tomatoes while others did.

Now mind you I wrote everything down for her to follow when to water, fertlize etc

I coundt figure out what happened to her toms, no flowers no toms, but lots of leaves, very healthy plants

she looked after her garden very well. I was stumped with the toms

After a while we were discussing her garden, still stumped with the toms and she came out and said. she didn’t like the smell of the plants and didn’t think the flowers were very pretty either so she took them all off

I never dreamed she would pick off the flowers but she did. That wa also in her instrcution booklet I had printed up but she overlooked it

we did have a great laugh about that tho. The next year she had a great crop after learning her lesson, lol,lol
