We installed some methods to help prevent spam in this community so we should see a big difference going forward now. It won’t eliminate it completely but it should help a lot. :-)

I hope it works, seems it’s killing this site.

It isn’t perfect yet, and will need some tweaks as we go, but I am already seeing a substantial difference.

Once I get everything cleaned up I am hoping to discuss container gardening with y’all for someone with only a small balcony for space.

... and we will be more than happy to chat with you about your container gardening. I have a LOT of hibiscus on my small deck, and am thinking about how I can make something to hang them over the outside of the deck railing … so I have more space for more plants.

I truly hope we can get rid of these spammers. They are a real turn off. I used to run 3 gardening sites several years ago, but the spammers/pornographers got the better of the sites and I decided to shut them down. I surely hope this does not happen here.

That definitely won’t happen here as we have some awesome tech guys working on ways to stay a step ahead of them. We will keep on working on it until we get it right. Nothing will work 100% but we can sure get it better.

Today, there are at least 10 SPAMS when I check out the site. It is even worse than before.

Keep striving for the solution.

Don’t leave us with no choice but to give up and leave the site completely.

There has been a lot of momentum lost in the meantime. Of the 16,000 gardeners, I doubt many of then are real people. The level of activity certainly does not reflect it.

The IT guys are working on adding 1st post approvals like what we have on LumberJocks to stop the leftover spam that still spills into the community. With spring well on the way we should be able to help get the gardening discussions going again. :)

Is there any new status on the spam prevention? Right now, this topic, “Spam Prevention Installed”, is the only non-spam of the five most recent:

They are still working on it. They have prevented a huge percentage of it but some still gets through that I am manually removing until they finish the code for 1st post/blog/project approvals gets finished. I know you have waited a long time. Thank you for your patience.
