Topic tags/keywords: green onion seeds question

Hey all. Just joined today, but I’ve been lurking since inception. I have a question about these green onions that overwintered and are about to give up some goodness. Hoping someone had an idea.

Green Onion Seeding

Any idea if these will produce viable seeds that I can plant this year? If so, should I attempt to harvest or just let ‘em fall and see if they grow new ones?

I think the onion tops first have to flower. I would imagine the seeds would be for next year after drying but its only a guess.

You will get lots of seeds. Yes, the tops have to completely flower out then they will develop small black seeds. In the fall, collect the dried flower head in a paper bag and shake it…all the seeds will fall out.

Hi Iffy,
Welcome to GT!

As for the onions, a lot of people just let them reseed themselves!!!
