This year I’m hoping to plant an extremely small veggie garden as I lack
the space. I plan to purchase tomato plants, cukes and these will go
into containers. The beans, beets, onions and carrots will be a direct
sew once I prep the soil and the weather warms.

I often listen to the gardening shows on radio which are extremely helpful now
that there are so few garden shows on tv.

Wishing all a great beginning to the planting season.

Hey Blooze
We have 2 large vegetable beds, but I put in a small raised bed up against the GH.This one is by far my favourite to plant and look after.I filled it with a good triple mix and just top it with compost. The soil stays good and light, never has to be dug,and no weeeding.I plant garlic, onions, carrots, bok choy, spinach etc and everything is planted really close. The veg I grow in this are always great and the garden basicly takes care of itself.
One can grow a good variety of veggies in very little space for sure.
Its sure nice to be getting back to gardening isn’t it?

Thank you CG. I was out wandering yesterday and noticed many of the stores had bags of triple mix, black soil, manure etc. but not yet priced. I forgot about the bok choy … thanks for the reminder. I’ve been thinking of a raised bed in the lil plot of mine. It would certainly make the plot look more in control … and that “professional” look. Oh yes, was hoping to grow the birdhouse vine (gourds). I’m thinking big when I ought to be thinking small. ;-)

I have such a terrible time getting carrots to germinate

Does any one know why

Maybe I am covering them too deep but I didn’t think so but

How much soil should be on the seeds?

Maybe the birds are having a feed of them

I’ve planted carrots for the last 15 year just hoping but I never get even one

what’s the secret with carrots?

I am stumped why I have so much trouble with them.

HI BUNTING CARROT SEEDS ARE SLOW TO GERMINATE WHEN THE SOIL IS WARMER THEY GET QUICKER COVER THE GROUND WITH GLASS OR PLASTIC TO WARM THE SOIL ANOTHER TRICK IS TO SOAK THE SEEDS FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS IN WARM WATER PRIOR TO SOWING.
IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET GOOD CROPS OF CARROTS AND OTHER VEGETABLES GROWING IN CONTAINERS STARTING THEM OFF IN A WARM PLACE. SEE MEDWYNS VEGETABLES BELOW ALL GROWN IN CONTAINERS OR RAISED BEDS .

THIS IS TO GIVE YOU SOME ENCOURAGEMENT

THIS IS MEDWYN WILLIAMS CHAMPION VEGETABLE GROWER YEAR AFTER YEAR AT THE CHELSEA SHOW.
