Thanks Xploreorganics! I know that thistles are really weeds but I though I’d give it a try. May regret it. |

I had some grow wild in the back of my yard two seasons ago…no idea how they got there, but just as they bloomed, the neighbor behind me nicked ‘em all. Jerk… -- Living on the square...Metro Detroit |

Your neighbor behind you entered your yard to kill plants that were not on their property? o.O -- Planting Daylilies in Kentucky, zone 6b |

I should have been more clear…the thistle was growing in the chain link fence that separates our yards. -- Living on the square...Metro Detroit |

Cool looking flowers. Most people in my area destroy these plants. It may become a weed if plants are allowed to self seed freely. Trim the flower heads before they set seed to control it and its pretty ornamental. Seedrack.com might have them but it may be a special order however, cause i didn’t see them listed. Definitely plant away form the property boundaries. Good luck |

Damocles- I can sympathize. Last summer I had a nice patch of thistle growing in my front yard. Just when they were about to bloom, someone (a stupid neighbor?) came and cut them all down. I was so shocked! I had been waiting for them to bloom. This year I am planting echinops and other sharp plants over the entire front lawn. I’m leaving the naturally occuring thistle in place too. I’m excited to see it all blooming this year. |
