Thanks for entering me in the draw Debbie.I was just about to do that.I made some more markers this winter for some of the new stuff I have to plant this year.Last years markers are still outside and still look like new.I am amazed at how well they are standing up to the weather.

always thinking, MsDebbieP. Good for you. Sounds like fun.

Bon’s are amazing! My markers are cheap! I found some venetian blinds by the roadside on “big garbage day”, and have cut them into 4-5 inch pieces and used them for years.

Quite possibly.

I don’t see the challenge listed in the competition area. It would be better if it were, in my humble opinion, and then there would be more entries.

Also, I see that Fox glove competition is still listed as being on. I do believe it is over, is it not? Alas, we miss Michal.

it’s being taken care of …
The “challenge” is to celebrate the GT News’ return, thus it was announced there first.

The Fox Glove – we totally forgot about that and it has already been pointed out and is now on the list for editing.
Thanks for everyone for helping us with keeping the site “great”.

$10 for non-North American entries? Wow, I hope that is $10CDN cause that would be, like…a lot of NZ shekels!

My problem is…..I don’t usually label my plants anymore. I did years ago, but now I either remember or else…lol.

I do use little coffee stir-ers when I’m seed starting. But they are useless in the garden. Sometimes when I get a new plant I leave the commercial label with it for the first season but it usually disappears bf the season is gone.

If I had some ‘new, fantastic idea’ I’d enter the challenge but this time I don’t. :(

I wasn’t going to enter, and give others a chance to win, but since MsDebbieP says we don’t have very many entries, I thought that I would take a moment to enter. Now I have to go back to more planting.

I don’t know where the heck I am going to put all these goodies if they all take. LOL

Click for details

As I mentioned before, I use only the cut up venetian blinds ( which I find some people throw away ), and a good pencil. I tried the sharpies, but they seem to fade over time.

Like Gone_Tropical, I do like the idea of placing the markers in the soil in a set spot. I usually put it at the 12:00 o’clock position when looking at the plant from the front of the garden. They seem to last best if almost completely buried in the soil, with just a tip showing so I can pull it up easily, if I need to make a reference, without getting too dirty. :)

These are some of my ornamental kale seedlings which I have planted.

I have some ideas on what I want to do, but no the funds for it at the moment (I am looking at making some markers that are creative and will last a while… keep sake types) so will have to forgo the contest this time… I am interested to see who wins this one and what the next contest will be, though…

Yes, 4 is enough for Bridge, or Spades (maybe more appropriate for this group), but not for something like this.

some don’t use markers, some use the same as what has already been posted and some used purchased markers.
That’s ok … next month we’ll try something different. There probably won’t be any prizes but we can do some fun stuff.

(and I hope all the sand-bagging people are safe and sound)

I don’t use labels. I try to mark the plants on a paper map of my yard instead. I am pretty good at remembering and recognizing my plants as well, but maybe that just says I don’t have the variety of plants some of y’all do. : ) Good luck to everyone who entered!

I don’t use labels either, but I appreciate when plants, which I don’t recognize, have labels in the local gardens, parks and arboretums.

Would you recognize a bunya-bunya tree? Could you tell it apart from a Monkey Puzzle?

And, I guess I’ll be consoled with the fact than no one elses marker’s were bigger than mine, thanks to that Jolly tall fellow (RIP).
