My question is, can I collect seeds from Marigold African Inca Yellow and have them look the same as the ones in my garden now? I love these marigolds. They’re so big and fat, almost like mums.

See, I don’t know if it’s a hybrid or not. I read where you can’t collect seeds from hybrids. The seeds will always revert to the original plant, which I don’t want. However, being as cheap as I am – make that frugal – I don’t want to buy the seeds again if I can just collect from the flower.

Thank you in advance.

I collect seeds from my marigolds every year and they always bloom the same as the flower from which I collected them. I have small, bright yellow ones and the small bronzy ones.

Ah,Iris, “small” being the catch word. The Africa Inca Yellow I ordered from Vesey Seeds are huge – you know, for marigolds. I also ordered a typle called Mr. Majestic which is bronze and yellow. Although I’m saving the seeds from both, I’ll be willing to bet that next year they’ll just come up as ordinary little marigolds.

I guess I’ll have to wait and see.
