What a great idea to put all this info in one place for easy access, MsDeb.

On the info I have from you re. a de-icer for your pond, I bought one to have ready for next fall. I think I may never have come to this decision, except after reading your blogs and project re. your experience with your pond, I’m convinced it may be the answer to my predicament, “what to do with the fish for the winter”. Especially when I like to go south for some part of our winter. I hate having to bother either of my kids to come and keep an eye on things.

Having all this info easily found may convince others that a pond in the garden is a great addition.

thanks :) I think it will really be helpful to all members – especially new members.

re: the de-icer, the bonus was watching the birds drink and bathe in the water.

funny how differnet folk read into words cause when I saw it with reference to ponds I thought

“What”....”What the hell is that”

“Where…...”Your going to put that there…..OMG!”

“Why”.......”Why the hell would anyone call that a pond, and why the ^%$@ did you put it there?”

“How”......”How the hell am I going to fix this &%#@”

I think of my FIL and his on going pond saga.

I know its coming. The great flood of 2010. 25,000 gallons of water removed from said FIL ponds that create gullies and canyons down the driveway. Followed by mud slides, followed by the oldguy falling into the sewage at the bottom.

Then of course, there will be the yearly ritualistic building of wooden plant stands, with plants put on the boards, and then 25,000 gallons will be pumped into his ponds, the wooden stands will float to the top, the stand will listto one side and the plants will slide off, down to the bottom only to repeat the above.

Finally, money will prevail and the pond will be full, turn green like pea soup, the million goldfish will float to the top and start to stink. The dogs willroll in the rotting carcasses, run through the house and te whole place starts to look like an old movie of cowboys and indians, guns ablazing.

I dont know if I could tell some one what “to do” when it comes to a pond, but I have been taught by the best on what “Not to do”

cheers

LOL greenthumb. that is hillarious. reminds me of an old tv show, “home improvement” starring tim allen. he would always over-do everything, and then grunt like a “man”, and it would always end up exploding in his face or something. really funny.
