I’ve discovered about a week ago that a huge number of my plants was attacked by creepy, crawly things, mealy bugs, flying things etc. My next discovery was neem oil – we heard about its usage as a bio-pesticide during the last orchid show in Toronto but of course it cost an arm and leg right there. So I went to the nearby Indian grocery store and bought a small bottle of it for $1.89, mixed a teaspoon of it with few drops of a dishwashing liquid, added warm water and went on a spraying spree. And voila – the crawlies are gone, nothing died, leaves look brighter, and I spent pennies on each spraying solution.

Isn’t it funny that for every expensive solution, there is often a very cheap, if not free alternative, that works at least as well? Thanks for sharing that.

Yes neem oil is a great alternative to chemical pesticides. And a great garden soap…or a soap for anything for that matter is Dr. Bronners peppermint soap. I could not believe how green my grass was where the dog does her “stuff” but I wash the area with a litte Dr. Bronners and it is so lush in that spot :)

I love this stuff so much that my blog actually sounded like an infomercial, and no I am not a sales rep….LOL

I’m going to become a neem oil follower:) My dog has skin disease and I’ve been treating her with the neem oil for the past few day and her skin is not pink anymore, she scratches less and she’s much calmer – if you go to wikipedia it gives you the whole range of external and internal cures by neem. One by one here. Plants survived and they look healthier. Shadow (the dog) looks better. Let’s explore the new cure for all :)

There is a great book called Neem, The Ultimate Herb by John Conrick. He basically introduced Neem to the United States. Great read. I buy the concentrate spray from neem king
