My Fruit Smoothie(s)

! I buy fruit when it is on sale. After cleaning it, I slice it up into fine pieces, bag each fruit type individually and freeze it. In this way I have apples, grapes, (grapes I leave whole, but off the stem) strawberries, blueberries, coconut, peaches, etc. Fruits that can change color, such as apples or bananas, I squeeze lemon juice into the baggie filled with and seal, shake to coat. In this manner, I have out of season, cheap and readily accessible fruit for any smoothie I want. Because my husband and I watch our weight as we get older, we use Equal as a sweetner, but you young ones can easily opt out for sugar :)
Process:

The night before you are going to make smoothies for a few days, take a clean icetray and pour 2% milk into trays and freeze.
Next day, choose fruits of your choice. My favorite is:

In a blender, add:
To very bottom: Add 4 or 5 cubes of the frozen milk.
Handful or two of sliced, frozen strawberries.
1/3 banana fresh, or handful frozen slices.
3 handfuls of sliced, frozen peaches.
Handful of sliced, diced small frozen coconut.
1 Tbsp. or so of Wheat Germ.
2 packages Equal sweetener.
Now pour in 2% milk (unfrozen) to be about 1/2 cup.
Blend until all is smooth and creamy.

Makes 1 tall glass.
This is sooo yummy, we use it as a dessert.

As a sidenote: I’ve noticed that the white grapes make even fruit you may not like taste better. I’ve also used fruit juices instead of milk if I’m not in the mood for the cream taste, and just want pure fruity taste. :)

Sounds like another great recipe. I think I will wait until it is a bit warmer outside to try it. I am thinking your chicken salad and a fruit smoothie would make a fantastic summer-time meal. Thanks!

Everything is fine with your recipe but be aware of the harmful side effects of Equal Sweetner. Try to avoid it if possible.

I’m not much on artificial sweeteners myself either. Wife does unrefined sugar.. Me? I just stick with the white stuff..

Do have a Stevia plant.. it’s nice to chew on from time to time.

I bought packets of Stevia .. works great. You can buy it in bulk as well.

I gave up on the Stevia plant—easier to buy it.

I’ve read all the opinions and scientific research results on sweeteners, and appreciate the concern. My sweet old granny has used it for as long as I can remember, and is still thriving, right up into her 90’s. She still looks and feels great! Here’s the most recent photo I have of her:

I have never used them before about a year ago, and figure at 50, watching my weight has become quite important. The accumulation of enough of it in my system to cause any real damage at this age seems moot.
Besides, it can’t do any more damage than smoking cigarettes… :)

it’s all about “knowledgeable choices”—what we do with the information is up to us. It’s good to hear about the pros and cons so we can make our decisions.

Lol, the debate reminds me of the Woody Allen movie: Sleeper – 1973. :).
