Balcony Salad!! No-picture-s No-picture-s Click the pictures to enlarge them

I am forever keeping things “in case of”!
I was reading a gardening magazine, and they were talking about putting together basic stuff in a wooden crate for people living in appatrments!

Guess what? I have a few of the wooden crates, in different sizes! I decided to adapt their project: they were putting in store bought plants, I would try seeds!!

Preparing the crates! Step one

Preparing the crates! Step two
A week later They are growing but quite spindly ….

And I went and yesterday I got

So, I still have high hopes that my daughter is going to have a small garden on her balcony!!

even if it doesn’t produce, it will be fun to watch and learn and experiment again next year!
(gotta love those clementine boxes)

Nice green house. I have seen that one at a few places, tempted to get it, but holding back

Well, MsD,
The chards are the colored variety. Grew them last year in the flower beds and make for a nice addition. As well very tasty. They are not hard to grow, which is why I tried them here!! As for the rest, it is a waiting game!!:-)

And B,
After starting seeds inside for more than a quarter of a century, not being very good at it, I decided not to wait another quarter of century and to have some fun! :-)

‘E’, perhaps the plantlets need protection from the wind or perhaps too much sun for little newbies.
Again, perhaps they have had a bit of a shock. They’ll be fine.

E

That’s what I call recycling. I had a couple of those baskets and never thought of using them this way

Smart you are

I think I will so my salad garden in a tub this year on the deck too and save my wee space for other things

I never tried growing romaine lettuce and its a fav too. It is hard to grow E?? Or just as easy as others??

I have a question about lettuce. Can it go in the ground prior to the last frost date?
