In the end, my winter garden ended up being somewhat successful.
I lost quite a few plants to moth caterpillars and frost bite but I still managed to get a few survivors.
I have a couple cabbages, some turnips, kale, and broccoli sprouts to show for my efforts.
The best part of this experience? Learning what to do next year! Next year I have every intention of growing a winter garden again, but this time I will grow my own seedlings and only plant what I know will be most likely to survive.
Oh, and my garlic is doing well too! I’m very excited to harvest that in a couple months.
My personal plot in April, showing what survived the winter.
Turnips, cabbage, and garlic in my personal plot.
Kale in the food bank plot.
Broccoli sprouts in the food bank plot.

The plants that did survive look great.Every year we gardeners learn something new about what will and will not grow in our areas. After more than 30 years of gardening I am still learning.(lol)
