I know, I know…..it’s not July 31 yet. But I decided I would post pictures of my container gardens now and not wait till the last minute. LOL
I have 10 large containers that I plant for the summer. This summer, I decided to use only plants that I had started from seed (winter sowing or indoor starts) and plants that I had taken slips from last fall and kept them growing all winter on my window sill.
The pictures are three of my planters.
The first planter has coleus, that I started from seed and a green & purple plant that I originally rec’d from horsetail at the GT getogether tw0 years ago. I don’t know what the name of the green & purple plant is…..if someone else recognizes it, I’d be glad if it was id’ed.
This next planter is filled with a geranium that I grew from a slip, rose kale, started from seed, Mario’s mystery marigold, bunny tails, started from seed and a sweet potato, kept from last year.
This half barrel has coleus, started from seed and a sweet potato kept over the winter.

Iris, glad to see your entry to the container contest. Coleus is looking so attractive. I hope somebody will identify the g&p plant. The sweet potato looks different from what I see here but the lush green leaves catch the eye. The planter with the mixed plants stands best for the competition. Wish you will be the winner.

Thanks Bon. I am pleased with the coleus as it was not started until after Easter and yet they are looking nice and full.
The green and purple plant that I can’t remember the name is the green one in the background. When Horsetail gave it to me, she said grew like a coleus, and it does. But where coleus has very small flower spears, this plant has lovely quite large blue flower spears. The leaves are dark green on the top and dark purple underneath. Someone else showed this plant, not too long ago, but I can’t remember who that was and I can’t remember what it was called. It’s terrible to get older and lose your memory, ;)
Thanks for the good wish for me, Sharad.

Iris, your plants look great growing together in those containers. I like the middle one the best; the variety of colors and leaves looks terrific! I can’t ID you plant but I like the way it looks with the coleus.

wow. I’m really impressed at how lush your plants are—from seed, you say!
I must be doing something wrong with my seeds .. the plants aren’t even close to being that big.
Love the half barrel, too ..
