Beautiful and delicious-looking harvest, rookie! The squash looks gorgeous and is unfamiliar to me. Is it like a summer squash in taste and texture? What is it called or should I ask Ms. Hakima? I grew habaneros one year and they were TOO HOT to eat. Now I stick to jalapenos, they are just hot enough for us to enjoy.

That’s a butternut squash…there is a story about the picture of this squash…but I can’t say on a nice forum like this ;)

I’m slow on this site. Don’t let rookie fool you…he’s a natural at gardening and a great conversationalist. Plus, he quickly adds great pictures to his profile…

The pictures are great. And Rookie, you have come to the right place! We all love pictures….almost as much as the flowers and veggies and fruit. Your pictures would make great posters.

Thanks Hakima. I have never seen the inside of a butternut squash that was so orange.

Hmmm. I just read this about butternut squash: “The oranger the color, the riper, drier, and sweeter the squash.” They must have tasted great.

thanks, folks, fer all yer sweet comments…

dear ms debbie,
that year we only got two or three lil gourds/squash, and those two were tha only ones worth eating, so they were headed fer tha frypan and i took pics of them right on tha cutting board…

one day, when i learn how to do this wit aplomb, drying and decorating will also be on tha menu… :)

Your harvest is a good representative of a veg garden. You have presented your products very artistically. Are all cucumbers curved like this or this was an odd piece?

dear sharad,

every cuke i’ve ever grown has a slight curve to it…
in our garden last year, we got a mess of “golden” cukes that were almost like tennis balls, not quite round, but not yer basic cuke shape, either…
then there are a few, like tha one shown hanging off the side of tha dehydrator, that have a pronounced curve…
i do not know what influences their growth like that…

some are also very light in color, some get dark green, and some were dang near bright yellow…
the taste difference wuz negligible…
many of them were pickled and we still haven’t opened all them jars… :)
