GrandmaT asked to see one. This is the only picture I have and its not great but it gives an idea
Being on “Dial up” it takes forever to download a picture so the links will have to suffice

A barn board wall hung planter

and a small arbour to house an old church bell…..........at the cottage (sorry but the bell was put away for the winter. It also acts as an entrace to the stone path that winds through a long stretch of lilacs

Cheers

Thank you Greenthumb for the pictures!!! I love the lighted bird house idea !!! Like the barn wood planter on your deck!!! Flowers really look nice in it. AND, what a nice entrance marker for your stone Lilac path!! Your yard, from various posted pictures, sure does look inviting and comfy …

The lilac grove is at the cottage and is almost 100 years young. Every few years the old trees that are just about dead, get pulled out giving the younger trees room to grow. When in bloom it’s a heavely stroll.
Two years ago I took some the root balls and trunks (saving them from the fire) home. When good and dried out the bark pulled off revealing spectacular burl like grain. Very cool because when I cut a few of them up into lumber, the wood was purple and the smell…......just like Lilac. I made my mother a shoe horn and she was delighted.
I hang the bell in that arbour so that in the event my parents have an emergency and the phone lines are down, they can ring it and all know that when a bell doesnt stop ringing…........help is needed. You can hear it clear across the lake.
MsDebbie…............there is also a bench in that Lilac grove which sits is such a way that people could walk by and not even notice some one sitting there. A fine place to sit with a breath taking view of the lake.
Thanks for the kind words

I am getting the feeling that you are a very sentimental person.
re: shoehorn- my plastic one just cracked and I was thinking that I should be able to make one from wood… that was my last thought… now, perhaps I can do it…
that is my goal as well to create a secret little retreat .. I’ll have to do a lot of planting but someday.. someone will have a little secret area :)

Hmmmmm, I’m sitting here imaging your Liliac and can “almost” smell them !!! :-) Honestly though, that Lilac grove must be spectacular and add a view of the water, pure heaven indeed.
I KNOW your mom must love that shoe horn … cuz I know whenever my grown kids make their ol’ mom (that’s me – hee
) something, it is a real treasure and I know it comes from their heart. Special gifts indeed.
AND, what a fantastic use of the bell!!!!!!!! I’ve said it before Greenthumb … you have one loving heart!!
