Plant Markers Jan.20/10

Project by Bon posted 226 days ago 1100 views 0 times favorited 18 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Every year I add new plants to my gardens and sometimes the writing wears off of the plastic ones over the winter and I have to go back to my notes to remember what and where I planted them.So this year I thought I would do something different to mark them. Also when walking around the gardens with friends I don’t have to tell them what each plant is. (lol)
A friend gave me some pine tongue and groove ends from a job and I finally found out what to do with them.I painted the unfinished parts, carved the names in them with my dremmel and filled in the names all with outdoor paint. Then I cut some stakes out of some old slats I got from a skid making place and painted them too. Then I bradded them together. I don’t know how long they will stand up but I had fun making them.

they look great and should serve the purpose for at least one year! :)

well done.

I love them. a lot of work but they sure look nice

I collected flat rocks about the size of my hand. I then used a china marker to mark th names of plants. I cut out colored pictures from a garden catolague and glued them on the rock above the names, then painted them with 4 coats of varithane.

They held up very well 2 winters now, this being the 3rd so I will see in th Spring what condition they are in.

I do need a lot more . My neighbours see me walking with my head down cause I am looking for more flat rocks. Some came frrom the beaches a few years ago but we are not allowed to take them any more so the hunt is on

Your method Bon is a lot faster. and looks just as nice if not nicer. But I do like mine and they were cheap

Bon, those markers look great, especially with the black painted letters. A very creative and clever use of your time!

You will be the envy of the neighbourhood———of course, I think you probably are now, with your beautiful gardens.
Very nice markers, Bon. A job well done!

Thanks everyone.I really like your idea also Bunting.Maybe I’ll start collecting some flat rocks this summer for when the wooden stakes rot away.

Great idea Bon I’m going to use this in my garden. I have this problem of forgetting what things are before they come up. Sometimes I’m surprised even after. ha ha . This project my son will probably like helping with.

I hope they hold up well. I need something for my garden. I tried Magic Markers but they faded before the growing season was over.

So far so good Mickey.I carry a magic marker in my pocket while I tour around the gardens just to keep the white plastic markers that I write on looking good.
