This one is in it’s second year. I am trying to find a way to stake them naturally, so I surrounded them with daisies and a row of cupid’s dart which you can’t see well from these pics. With all the rain lately, some of them are droopy… so I quickly took pics while I had a burst of sun. There is also a lone hollyhock (I believe it will be black!) making it’s way to the top.

I like them!
I have been growing them for years but only have about 5.
Seems my apprentice gardener has difficulty determining weeds from perennials.
I am hoping to have a breakthrough this comming year. ;-)

FYI – where the purple delphs now bloom were formerly purple irises. My attempt at continuum.

I saw your photo and I was immediately reminded of my dad, who one summer let his delphiniums go to seed, and he then planted several rows of them in our summer home garden. We had some of the most amazing colours, as they continued to cross fertilize. Good memories.
Yours are beautiful. I have only a couple in bloom at the back of the property. I wish that I had more flat ground and more sunny gardens, as I do love them. My neighbour also has one growing, so we enjoy them together. :)
Thanks for sharing, mtkate.

Jroot, I have been seeking delphs because they remind me of grandparents – of which I have none left (alas). Thanks for that memory.

mtkate: What beautiful Delphiniums! I can’t think of a prettier shade of purple in a flower! I love when a certain flower or plant reminds me of a loved one. I planted a lovely Graniflora rose in my front yard. It is a brilliant red with white under the petals. I planted it in memory of my Dad and each time I see it, I smile and think of him. I think of how he would just love to see this rose-he loved red roses. He also loved to build trellises for the roses on the farm. Good memories!

I just planted a delphinium. Perhaps I should have purchased two or three! So lovely
