My brother and I decided to have a “family garden” this year. We are hoping to be able to preserve “the fruits of our labor” and save some money as well as feed our families home grown food. He has tilled up about a 100 square foot “family garden plot” at his farm 6 miles away but I decided that I wanted something more here also. When we gets some plants in there worthy of photos I will have to post it as well.
Last year I had a small 15×15 area off of our deck that had tomatoes, cucumbers, pole beans, lettuce and onions in it. We ate off of it and didn’t put much of anything up in the way of produce.
This year the hubby and I tilled up another patch in the back yard it is 20×20. You can see him managing the tiller. And of course myself looking lovely in my garden digs as I am wearing a blister on my hand….. OUCH. ;0) It was late in the day and the far west side gets some evening shade. The neighbor gave us his old deck railing that they tore off. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE getting things for free!!! You can see it against the fence in the photos. This will fit perfectly around 2 sides and the existing chain link will finish off the other 2 sides. I plan to put tomatoes and 3 pole bean tee pees that I made yesterday in here for sure. I have no doubt I will fill both areas up quickly. It should be really pretty this summer as I have blue morning glories that climb and cover the old windmill in the background.

sounds like you are going to enjoy it this summer and then again in the winter as you eat your home-grown food.
Looks like a lovely sized garden! I look forward to seeing it planted – especially the climbers.

Looks like a lot of work right now, but I’m sure you already know it’ll be work. That is a good size for a home garden. You will get lots of ggod stuff out it. Lots of good eating. Nice. Be sure to show us some pictures—-make us all envious. ;^)

Oh that is really a nice size home garden!!! My grandfather always had one about that size (darn near took up half of his backyard). Gonna be some good eating down the road … all year long. I too look forward to seeing photos as the season progresses and your lovely garden grows! :-)

That looks so serene now. Soon, it will be alive with plant action.
