April, 2009
This is the birdhouse that Rick made last year. It is a “rusted tin shed”.
The post it is attached to is a metal sculpture that I purchased recently.
It is now part of my labyrinth
Oh.. and the birdhouse is painted cardboard (attached to wood frame).

I like that!
Enough coats of varnish and it’ll even take some weather!

it had several coats of varnish and survived the winter outside.
I really should put a few more coats on it now. Maybe next week some time.

That’s cardboard? I would never have thought it would stand up to weather. Cool! :0)

several coats of varnish. A few pieces have folded up but it really adds to the look. Needs more varnish though to protect underneath the pieces.

thanks.
It has endured one winter so hopefully with a little care it will continue to survive, especially since I love the look.

and another special nesting—
(the outhouse can be seen in the third picture – the small one inbetween the “apartments” and the “cabin”
in the “outhouse” we have the first tenants, some Swallows.
All the other birdhouses have had visitors, but not the outhouse. We thought it must not be designed right… but finally, a bird actually went inside and checked it out.
The swallows have been there for several days now. Of course, the sparrows were NOT happy at first and tried chasing them away. But I think all is well now and the community is in harmony :)

Love how Rick and you have made a sort of community of birdhouses … they all look really cool on the basketball hoop.
Truly nice addition to your yard/gardens!!!

we definitely have wrens in the “rusted tin birdhouse” and oh do they get upset when you are in their territory (which would be anywhere in the front yard).

That is so exciting … and I bet a bit noisey too as they let you know you are invading their territory. :-)
