July 31/08
The tree at the top of the berm is a dirty, messy tree and grows too big for the spot it’s in.I noticed that the middle is dead so time for a nicer tree.Went to the nursery yesterday and this is what I came home with.
It only grows 10’ high and 10’ wide.It has striking pink, green and white foliage during the growing season.Branches turn coral red in winter and older branches turn orange and green.
Just have to find the time now to cut down and dig out the old tree and put in the new :-)

We have quite a few neighbours who put that willow in. It certainly is striking.

Yah it is hard to step around plants when you are trying to remove and then plant such large items. I feel for you in regard to that. Glad to hear you have help!! :-)

I’d seen a small one of those in shrub form at Lowes on the “OMG, I’m almost dead!” rack outside for $3.. Almost got it but wasn’t sure if I could use it anywhere.

Going back later today to see what else may be out there. Got two fruit trees for $8/ea, a large chokeberry bush for $5 and several smaller plants (catnip, coneflower, salvia, etc) for $1/ea.

I love the dead rack. Good stuff, so long as you dig around the worthless annuals.

I bought a little Hakuro Nishiki Willow standard on a whim. It was only $10 and I had no idea where I was going to plant it. It was just too pretty to resist. Are you planning on letting yours get big or are you going to prune it to keep it’s “star” shape?

Karla..I plan on letting it grow big. It’s already nearly 6’ high.It doesn’t have a star shape though.
Scott…..nice bargains.Garden shopping this time of year is so much fun.
