Bringing the Inside Out - A little "Standing Light" Bringing the Inside Out - A little "Standing Light" Bringing the Inside Out - A little "Standing Light" Click the pictures to enlarge them

Many years ago, when the kids were in their young teens my husband bought me this beautiful, very country styled, iron lamp. It had an upright light that looked like a candle, with a glass surround and cloth shade that went over the surround. I LOVED this lamp. Unfortunately over the years it got knocked over more than once by wrestling teenagers and then running grandchildren. Seemed like no matter where I put this lamp, it was never quite safe – LOL!!!! So after the last “knock” it broke beyond repair; and me not being able to part with it, stored it in the basement hoping someday I would find something to do with it.

Well the day arrived … as I was thinking about what I could enter in this contest that lamp came to mind. I thought … hmmmmmmm, I could purchase a ceramic planting pot and use that as the lamp shade, but switch it up by hanging the pot downward. So the shopping for a small ceramic pot began. I couldn’t buy anything too heavy, as the lamp wouldn’t support it. I finally found the right pot. It is beige and has bamboo “carved” into each side. See photo below.

I specifically bought the pot with a drainage hole in the bottom so that we could put a fastener through it and attach it to the arm of the lampstand to simulate a lamp with hanging shade.

Then I thought how beautiful would it look attached to the old white spindle back chair planter that I (and hubby) had created. It would be really pretty sitting next to a chair or my swing. Mimicking a planter box with attached lamp; like I have seen displayed indoors. So I attached the lamp with a removable strap; in case I want to separate the two down the road, or set up another arrangement. (if you click on the three project pics at the top, it will show the lamp attached to the chair.)

Below is the chair in original form before hubby cut the hole in the seat for the basket. As you can see from the above pictures it has weathered quite nicely with the paint coming off in all the “right” places!!!

So there you have it … my bringing the indoors out. My very own lamp-stand with planter box.

Very nice. I have thought about doing something similar, but space prevails. :( However, why not use the things that are available to us, – like your chair. :) Well done.

Turned out really nicely, GranT! Worth waiting to find that “perfect” pot!

Thanks … finding that pot was a lot more trouble than I thought it would be. Ended up going to 3 store before finding this. I think it being the end of the gardening season (store wise) didn’t help my “mission”. Two stores didn’t have even ONE POT!!! The last store had three that I wanted, but two of them were just too heavy. But in the end, this little guy works.

I appreciate ALL your kind words!!
