Was out walking the yard today and noticed that my Petunias have just exploded this year. The colors are just spectacular. Thought I would snap a few photos. Hope you enjoy …

I enjoy. I enjoy. The petunias have been doing well this year, with all the moisture. I purchased three wave petunias to put under my Ivory Silk lilac tree. As it happens, only two were white, and the other a mix of white and purple, very much like yours in the 4th picture. The petunias choked out any of the snap dragons that I had put in. Wouldn’t you know, but that middle petunia is the most agressive of all, and now the space is predominantly white and purple. It looks good though, so maybe next year, that is what I’ll plant again.

Well to be honest this is the first year with Petunias for me. At our former home, I just didn’t get enough sun to really be bothered with them. At this house I am still getting used to gardening in the full sun, 24/7 and for my first attempt with Containers here; I wanted to be successful … hence the Petunias. (I would experiement in my actual flower beds.) What I didn’t expect; was the growth, vibrant colors and smell … they smell quiet sweet. And, LOL!!! even with all this rain, I am still having to water my containers at least, if not twice a day, and now added a little fertilizer to my watering.

Thanks MsDeb … I do love that little sweet chair. As you know, I had bought it for the side of the house Container Garden, but found I really wanted it where I could see and enjoy it … so moved it to the patio area.
And Dini … yah, since you were here, some things have really taken off but mostly in the front bed … although I don’t think the Petunia’s were too much smaller when you and your DH were here for a visit. But all the containers have been getting a daily drink of Miracle Grow in the morning for some time now … so maybe that has finally “kicked in”. Me, I’m just enjoying them all!!! Been fun watching them grow from Springtime.

If they are wave petunias, you don’t have to deadhead. They look after that themselves. That is why I like them so much. Mind you, the waves don’t have the colour combinations of the others. Choices.. choices.
I like the chair too. I saw it and was going to comment on it, but got carried away.

Yah, I heard that … but I still am picking at them … :-)
Me too, I love that chair, one of my better finds this year. It should last “forever” cuz I will bring it in and store it during the harsh weather. Not sure I told anyone the “after story” when I bought it. Went back to the Farmer’s Market that early spring (next week) and because I was so in love with that little chair figured I would check out the same vendor and see what else they might have. Well nothing caught my eye, BUT I did notice that the little chair I had bought the week before for $25 was now $55!!!!! Talk about good timing and to be honest, I would not have bought it for $55 … way overpriced … needless to say, I went home just “a smiling”!!

Beautiful colours GrandmaT
I was never a lover of the petunia until I moved here. With such expansive flower gardens, petunias spread quickly with lots of flowers. The ones that hang look great in planters soooooo
I’m a convert
Nice photos

I always grow petunias They hide a lot of my mistakes and are are a joy to see each day. Dead heading is a PIA but it sure brings them on.
Yours are very pretty this year.
Don’t forget to save you seeds.

Thanks so much to everyone!!! They do bring a smile to my face and a sigh of satisfaction …
And … how do you save the Petunia seeds? New to this whole seed thing … someone should do a blog on how to save seeds; but then I imagine it is different for each plant, huh

Grandmas T:
You will need a few envelopes or if you have the time you can make some using scrap paper and a decent pencil.
Next wait unitil the little seed pods start turning brown ( they form just behind the flowers) and snap them off into your premarked envelope. You should be able to get about 20 to 30 seed from a pod.
Theyare little black guys about as big as pin heads .
Slip the envelopes in the crisper of you fridge until feburary and whem every one else is buying $3.00 packc of petunia seeds haul yours out of the fridge and plant them

Good tip on saving seeds, Bob. There are a lot of things with ripe seeds in my garden right now. Usually, I just spread them in the lower garden, and what comes up, comes up. There are some though that need the stratification process, away from the scavenging squirrels and birds. Good for winter sowing.
