These boxes were built out of cedar decking and cedar 2×4. The cedar decking is 5.5 inches high and a full 1 inch thick. The 2×4 was cut for the corners, I screwed two pieces together to form a square piece and then screwed the decking to the corner pieces.

The boxes have been filled with soil and are ready for planting.

They look lovely and sturdy. What will you plant in them?

that’s exactly what I was going to say—sturdy, lovely.. and what will be planted in them?

Right now, I have some herbs planted in one, parsley, cilantro, thyme, etc and pepper plants in the other. I had purchased the loam at Walmart, so am not sure how well the plants will grow. I would like to convert the garden area to all raised beds with lawn between the boxes. I am also building a greenhouse, design from Ana White’s website, so will post some pics later on.
