Hello All,
I am the latest entrant to your wonderful forum. I hope to learn a lot from all of you and hopefully increase my skills slowly.
I have been reading about container gardening for a while now and then I thought of browsing through my own backyard. And there it was, an old toilet, just sitting there!
So now I have it all cleaned up, minus the cistern and the pipes. I have filled the holes which allow water to come in from the cistern into the pot. I have placed it on the ground against a wall.
I started with filling the bottom part (it is quite large actually), with river pebbles and sand. After filling the pot about halfway with this, I added shredded coconut husks (of which we have plenty from our own coconut trees) and finally, added good garden soil to the top, ending 2 inches below the rim. The level will go down as I add water.
So now my new potty is ready for taking in some seeds/plants. I have ordered some really nice marigold seeds online and they should be delivered soon!
Will try to keep updating this!
Happy gardening.

This is such a great idea. And this version is very “artsy”, with the shell-effect of the lines. What a lovely addition to the garden.
I look forward to seeing the updates.

Hi Debbie,
Thanks for your comment. That was my very first one! Yay!
The old toilet happened to be `artsy’, but yes, I guess that will add a certain extra panache to the final effect.
Will post new pix.

I did this at a former house in Fergus. Mine was placed near the driveway with nice flowers in it. One day, I went to get the newspaper, and noted that it had been stolen. I guess someone else liked the idea. I have not seen a bowl quite as fancy as yours. Very artsy indeed.
