It was raining this week end, not a little bit…a lot!! Could not even see the fence at the back!
So I could not go outside, was bored, could have done housework…blah!!!!
So I remembered a project I started last fall, was supposed to finish during the winter months, but then found GT and….
Certain times of the year, I do a lot of clean up in the flowerbeds. Like right now, I am starting to remove the forget-me-not, to give a chance to the other plants that are growing under them!
I usually put them by the side of the beds in a pile and move on to the other bed or go back to “work”! And forget about them until, sometimes, the day after or hubby picks it up when he gets home!! Isn’t he a great fellow!:-D
I do have a few wicker baskets here and there but that is not enough and if I am not careful, they will rot!
So, I came up with the idea of old metal pails. Put a few holes in the bottom for the rain to escape and voilĂ !
Weed Pails
But I still was not happy with them so I decided to paint them!!
I started last fall, put them aside and here I am back with the same problem at the beginning of the year!!!
So, I finished them this week end and here are some of them!
!!
The first one to make it to the garden!

What an awesome idea!!!! Would work well in a large or small garden. I like the idea that you leave them in the garden … and love that they are so pretty … a practical piece of art!!! :-)

I still need the wheel barrow but only when they are full!
But I thought this project was done!!!
And I just decided that I needed something “neat and different” to sit them on!!!!
So, I think, I am going to build a base made of concrete and shape them like…or have tendrils…or..
So here I go!
Will let you know what will happen!!

Isn’t it amazing how one thing always leads to another and another and never ends. (lol) Guess that is what really keeps us going.

Gonna adapt this idea for my little bitty lot. Will save me the effort of going along picking up all the weeds i threw onto the lawn ( or sidewalk, or driveway) when I weeded the beds.

Bon,
Same here, so I am baking as we are “learning” and visiting!
Only problem: to many good ideas and not enough time!

Wish I had a little of the artistic flare. Again, your pails are simply beautiful and unusual.
Closest thing to pails that I could think up would be new paint pails …. lol. Not nearly as
attractive even with a spray can of paint. Oh, they are so beautiful …..and one of a kind!

Great idea to hang them from a Shepard’s Hook … gives some variety throughout the garden with them. Looking good “E”!!! :-)

I like the idea of the weed pail. I have a large pot (with drainage) for deadheading etc. It sits on my driveway behind my oleander, complete with a pair of scissors, ready for anyone who wants to do my work. Alas, it is usually only me, but the lady who is looking after my garden when I am away will hopefully find a use for it. :)

What a grand idea – I favour the first one with the face.
I have a black wire basket in the garden for weeds and dead heading as I go. I like it because it doesn’t hold water.
You sure are artistic and these put a personal stamp on your gardens.

Thanks Joelle, for bringing this post to the top again. I missed it first and second time around. (bf I joined GT) But it is still revelant and a good idea that will be very useful. Since I have a cat, I have lots of kitty litter pails. They are plastic but I’ll bet the paint will ‘pretty’ them up nicely. Just in time for the annual ‘pulling out the forget-me-nots’. LOL

That is what I am doing this morning. I pull them from around the plants that are trying to come up!
I do try to keep the forget-me-not in the garden for as long as I can, but I do not want them to impede the growth of the “new” plants!

Exactly! Me too. But, they do get to a point where they are looking pretty scraggly, and who needs several million of forget-me-not seeds for next year’s crop? A simple million will do the job nicely. ;)

Iris, I agree.
Mind you I do have an immense garden/forest where they can just grow to their heart’s content and I know it will not damage the natural flora.

I must say that these pails have come in very handy. Not only outside but inside as well: the biggest one we use for kindling in the living room and two of them are being used as garbage pails in the house!

Eklectic, those painted pails are a lovely and creative idea. I like that you can keep them out in the garden, ready for when you need them. What type of paint did you use, acrylic? Has the paint held up in the weather?

Robin, I used regular acrylic paint but I used and indoor/outdoor varnish on top!
I did use a metallic primer as well!
They have been outside for 2 years now. 2 winters as we did not bring them in! And they still look as good!:-)
