« Part 2: First Mowing Part 3 of A Fresh Start series Part 4: Flowers in Bloom »

My daughter and I spent this wonderful weekend planting bulbs and taking care of our yard. It was a lot of fun. She got to dig in the dirt and get extra dirty.

We planted a variety of bulb flowers that we had picked out a couple weeks ago.
The supply

We had tools and supplies everywhere.
The mess

The grass is looking really good.
The grass

And the beds were cultivated and finally used for the first time.
The beds

My daughters absolute favorite project was starting sunflowers in her own pots. She got to do everything, fill them with dirt, add the seeds, cover them, and water them. We have a place all picked out in the beds for them when the ‘grow up’ too.
Sunflowers

I have a lot of fun watching her try new things out. It was great the next morning after the first day we planted, she wanted to go out right away and see if her flowers had grown yet.

It was a very full weekend outside. I treated the roof for moss, my daughter and her aunt treated our front yard with potting soil to try to get the grass growing again, we cleaned our deck furniture, played ball in the backyard, biked and roller bladed, mowed and trimmed the lawn. We are loving spring with our new yard.

How old is your daughter? She sounds like a tender Gardentender. Your grass looks perfect. And I admire your gray brick structure. It sounds like the two of you bond well with green. How did she and you choose sunflowers? Looking good! Happy gardening.

What a wonderful weekend filled with lots of mom and daughter bonding!!!! How fun it will be your daughter to watch her sunflower seeds grow … and for that matter all the other plants you planted. What a nice selection. Your yard already looks so lovely, can’t wait to see it all in bloom!! :-)

Sounds like spring has really arrived in your area, Zeddicus. Those flower roots should take right off. Sunflowers are so much fun for young gardeners to grow bc they start off quickly and the plant is so showy. I’m sure they will be a beautiful addition to your gardens and daughter will be very proud of herself. Keep the pictures coming. You yard looks amazing with all the stone work done and the grass green, green, green! :-)

Thank you very much. We had a great time for sure. My daughter is three years old, but she will be four in just a couple weeks. (By the way GrandmaT – it was a Father/daughter weekend :O) Unfortunately momma has a screwy work schedule at the moment and is away on the weekends.

The landscaping is what we just had done in December. This is our second house, but it will be the first one with landscaping that is done and ready for gardening. We have a lot of work ahead of us to get it to where we want, but it’s the fun part of the work.

It is so much fun and such a rewarding feeling to see your yard and gardens develop from scratch. More so knowing that you have done all the blood, sweat and tears work.

I moved a house onto this property about 10 years ago. I had lived in a housetrailer on the property bf that, with all my gardens in. I had to tear everything out to make room for the house and all the machinery needed to get it here.
Once the house was here and settled on it’s new foundation, I had to start all over again. And yes the ground was compacted into cement, almost. Little by little it has come around and the earthworms are back. :-)

Zeddicus, your yard is already quite nice and by the time all the plants are in bloom, it should be beautiful.
And to have your daughter helping along side you, it is quite rewarding!
I can hardly wait for the follow up pictures!
