I came up with this idea when I stumbled across a dozen or so 8# kitty litter containers in the basement. Gonna give it a shot – and not have to wait for the end of next month to get the garden going OR even bother with transplants!
Has anyone seen the self watering container info in the latest Mother Earth News?
Anyone tried this or have similar tips on these ideas to share. – after my success with my indoor hydroponic garden i’m excited to give this a shot too!

Here’s something you might enjoy reading if you’re a DIY.

There’s also this idea which works via wicking for smaller pots made out of 2 liter soda bottles.

I really like the idea.
I have kept a lot of jugs and what’s not thinking of using them in the garden and I think this would work perfectly!
Thanks!

After (finally) having a lawn after years of mere disaster (and a fiver year old to run around all of it) I’m thinking containers would fit the bill, can line the driveway, porch, patio, rock walls and such. I already have a few whiskey barrels, and two hollowed out oak stump planters (3 feet across). Otherwise, I’ve moving the lilacs and going the square foot route… and I’ve been so spoiled by the hydroponic garden, why not have my set up do the work for me, take out some guesswork, and produce more than my not-yet green thumb could otherwise accomplish.
