Seedlings

I guess I should have blogged about the seedlings that I have started. I started some jalapeno peppers about a month and a half ago and they are almost ready to go outside. I started them in a peat pellet and keep them in a mini greenhouse. I then transplanted them to a bigger pot using soil that I bought from my local Dollar General. The soil already contained fertilizer so I thought it would help the young plants out. The tomato varieties that I have chosen is Roma VF and Organic San Marzano (they won’t stay organic for long). I really enjoy paste tomatoes and I thought these would fit best in my garden. I started them in Jiffy Mix in foam cups. I settled for the foam cups because I don’t want to have to keep putting them into bigger containers. I hope to be able to transplant them in 6-8 weeks. And hopefully I will have enough buckets for them by then. If not, I’ll be forced to plant them into the ground.

The Beginning

I have already begun our garden down here in South Texas. But I have decided to make changes to it before it gets too late into the season. You can track our garden under our project page as well as on the blog. I will try to blog a couple days a week about the garden. The square foot garden won’t be started until next weekend but the container garden is well under way. The tomatoes in the buckets are doing fantastic. Monday they will receive their first dose of liquid fertilizer. Hopefully by Friday I can get the tomato cages for them. I have started some new tomato plants indoors as well as ordered 12 more from Jung Seed. I should have 28 plants total in another month or so. I am interested to see if the Tree Tomato that I planted actually produces the 60lbs of tomatoes that it claims.
