Born and raised on a farm, rural life is in my blood, although I wouldn't consider myself as a farmer-type person.
I do, however, enjoy my backyard!

My GARDENING GOALS
* to grow as much of my food as possible on my little piece of land
* to create a personal retreat in my backyard so that I do not need to travel in order to find a place to relax
* to re-develop my front yard into its natural state of being part of the northern-most part of the Carolinian Forest

Oh.. and I'm also a member of:
*HomeRefurbers (http://homerefurbers.com/members/MsDebbieP) and
*LumberJocks (http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/MsDebbieP)

thank you :)
I had the best weekend!! Bonfire breakfast, hot dog night at my brother’s on Saturday, potluck yesterday—and my brother wrote a song for me, for my birthday!! Can’t get more special than that :)
And today .. well I’m so tired that I feel like I’m 50 years old!

Ms. Debbie,
I wrote a book called 7 Violet: The Harper Chronicles. It’s fiction, but it gave me an appreciation for what it takes to write something more than “lol”. Bravo to you!

I do have a question: Where can I get clean straight shoots from a hazelnut tree. I saw a craftsman on YouTube demonstrate how he makes beautiful little flowers on his lathe. We don’t have hazelnut bushes/trees in Michigan, so if you could refer me to someone who does, I’d be glad to turn them a small bouquet if they send me some nice shoots. Each flower requires about an 8 inch section of hazelnut. Diameter should be between 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch. Thanks.

oh I’ve seen those cute little flowers.
I hope someone can help you out with this question. You should post your question in the forums to make sure everyone sees it.

Also, have you posted a request on LumberJocks.com? There are a lot more members and you might find someone local to you.

(and thanks for the Bravo) :)

Thanks for the welcome, MsDebbieP! So many people here have been so welcoming, gives one the warm fuzzies…I LOVE that feeling! :-)

Glad you liked the verse, too. That’s from a poem (can’t remember the title) by Elizabeth Barrett Browning ~ love her poetry.

well I’m not feeling the warm rays today—it’s raining. Lots of rain today!
But the past week has been pretty good, overall.

I’ll be watching for the photos!!!

ah—visualizing EVERYONE becoming self-reliant on their land. Yes, that wouldn’t be very radical if everyone was doing what you are doing :)

Debbie, the more I am reading about permaculture, the more I am believing there are many people who think as I do. Life feels so right these days, I don’t feel very radical. I just feel peaceful. If you want to read a great book on permaculture that is not focused primarily on gardening, read Permaculture: Principles & Pathways Beyond Sustainability by David Holmgren. A very thought-provoking book I just finished, maybe I will write a review for it. I just bought Gaia’s Garden 2nd edition today. I am excited to see the changes from the first edition I checked out from the library. I decided it was a keeper.

there is a world-wide change taking place, not only to take care of the environment but each other as well.
We are slowly moving away from the the “all about me” phase of our evolution and into the “we” mentality.
