Seed Swap #1: The beginning

Blog entry by Michal Bulla posted 436 days ago 2308 reads 1 time favorited 25 comments Add to Favorites Watch
no previous part Part 1 of Seed Swap series Part 2: Canadian Seed Swap »

While I was surfing the LJ site I ran into Pen Turners' Swap and I get an idea – Seed Swap. Since there are several law restrictions when sending seeds, it would be better to have one package for each country. The package will contain 10 small bags with diferent seeds(5bags with blooms, 5bags with vegetable). Each bag should contain:

  1. Seeds
  2. Name of the plant
  3. Hardiness zone in which you are growing the plant

When each Tender gets the package he’ll go through it and decide what he wants to take from it, he can take all or nothing but… whatever we take we have to replace it with a like item, and then we pack it up and send it on to the next tender on the list. When the circle is completed the package will come back to the person who started it, hopefully with 10 new seeds.

Starting date should be february 12, 2009.

Now the question is: how many packages we’ll need? Everybody who is interested should send me a private message with your name and address. Also…we will need volunteers, who can start it.

Feel free to post any comments and suggestions so we can do it the best way.

this will be fun… like waiting for a present to arrive

if the first person puts 5 packages of each (flowers / veggies) into the box then that should be a good start. Next person takes/leaves their packages, then there should always be a surprise for the next person.
Of course it would be cool if more seed packages were added so that the variety increases.

All we have to do is “sign up” and get our 10 packages of seeds ready.. and wait!!

Yes, LOL—I imagine you are right Scott, with Canada being a huge list. But, hey at least there are three of us USA folks thus far … :-) Hope we have a few more US Tenders interested.
