« Part 3: The First Month... Part 4 of Vegetable Garden - 2014 series no next part

So the second month after planting came and went on the 24th… Here was the growth after one month, and at the two month mark last week…

We’ve been enjoying a side dish of Green Beans once or twice a week for about a month, and Radishes aplenty…

Only a trickle so far from the Cherry Tomatoes (and none from the Big Boys), even though the plants are loaded!

We’ve got a varmint problem, as I first discovered with the Pumpkin Plants… Something has been eating the Flowers!

And then my suspicions were confirmed this morning… My cute little Pepper plant was decimated over night…

I did get the Pepper off of it, it was all that was left… I’m at a loss about what to do about the pest(s)... I can’t very well set traps, there are too many cats in the neighborhood… I can’t very well stand guard over it either, so I guess I’ll just have to live with it…

Anyway, the plan is to stay the course… Our weather has been very mild for this area, we’ve only had one day that wandered into the 90’s, and the nights have been cool (in the sixties)... We have had Rain pretty steadily (once a week or so) but it has been Storms mostly, hard and driving, not gentle, soaking stuff…
The only work I’m thinking of doing, is if the first planting of Beans stops yielding soon, I may yank them up and try another…

All in all, we’re still enjoying the experience (Varmints notwithstanding!) and looking forward to what the rest of the Summer may bring… :)

Isn’t fun!

Your little garden is very much like mine. Just enough to have a little from my own garden.

A couple years ago, I had rabbits that really liked the beans in my garden. I put a chicken wire fence around it. It wasn’t hard and it didn’t cost much. And I have used the wire over and over again…...to protect the garden….to make cages for favorite flowers, etc.

BTW, I’m still waiting on my beans but I’ve had several cucs. :D

That is a Great Idea Iris, Thank You! I’ve even done that before, it’s just that it has been so long since I’ve had a Garden, I forgot all about fencing!
Here, the Beans have been flourishing, while the cukes have been slow-growing… go figure!
They are coming though… :)
