I’m new to all of this, the politics and controversy regarding our food supply, but I’m slowly catching up. And I don’t have the money or the time yet to become as active of a part of these movements as I would like to become. But I can share and discuss these issues with you all, my gardening friends, thus spreading the word to others of like-mind who can then share these issues with those that don’t know what is happening to our food supply. And the challenges start and end with our seed supply.
And though I can’t yet count myself as one of the many seed savers in the world, as I know many of you can, I do know it begins and ends with us protecting the seeds, because the corporations that are currently in control aren’t looking out for our best interest, only their own.
There is work being done on a documentary film to help spread the word, but they need help, so I thought I’d at least pass on this information to start this blog series. Seems like a good place to start.

it really makes you look at seeds differently, doesn’t it!
Precious, precious little packets of life.

There is this little standard quiz from the show “Inside the Actor’s Studio” that interviewer James Lipton makes the guests take at the end – one of the questions is, “what is your favorite word?” Seeds really are the embodiment of what my answer to that question would be; “potential.”

One of my favourite Native stories is that man was created in the image of Gitchi Manitou, (Creator), not as in “physical form” but in the ability to envision the possibilities. .... potential.

Thanks Jj for reminding us about our responsibility to preserve the original seeds. This will prevent the looming catastroph ahead.

Sharad, I know I’m preaching to the boots and jean-clad, dirty fingernail choir here – but will still be worthwhile discourse.
MsDeb – your mention of “Native” reminded me of I site I recently found (through Baker Creek Seeds) that I haven’t explored enough yet, http://www.nativeseeds.org/.

With 48 hours left to go, at this writing, they’ve exceeded their initial goal, but of course could use a little extra. The link above is still good.

You are so right Joel. Someday we will wish that we were more resourceful with the seeds and helped save them.
