Garden Journey 2013 #2: Early Spring
I feel like I’ve got a good start on the season, best I’ve felt of any past years at least. I’ve got a new seed starting station, a new cold frame, I’ve carved a few dibbers, and this past week I added to my tulip trellis thing – wasn’t enough “su...

Welcome to GT, Justjoel. What is your favourite type of gardening? Feel free to jump right in to the discussions. Photos are always appreciated as they sometimes give a better concept than mere words. :)

Congratulations on your one-year anniversary with Garden Tenders. I imagine things are starting to warm up and you are beginning to think about working in your garden again. How did your barrel composter work over the winter?

Robin – yes, things have been warming up, though there’s snow possibly in our future this week – ah, life in the high desert (had several inches of snow on Easter a couple of years ago)... Been working at making my garden fence tall enough to keep the dogs from leaping it and digging up my salad (the dogs have both been with our family just less than a year, and they figured out they could jump the fence in the fall, luckily). Received some strawberry root-stock as a gift and just planning the rest of the garden. When I get going I’ll be a little more visable. And composter wasn’t in operation over the winter, but I’m getting it going now. Have fun in the dirt!

Seems like there are a lot of Canadians in this fine group – is it okay if a silly Reno, USA boy is part of this exclusive club? It’s been about 20 F here, overnight, and stretching up to the 50s on occasion during the day (making me worry about the fruit trees budding too soon) – keep waiting for the other winter boot to drop.

Hey Joel … thanks for the friend request … see we are gardening in the same zone … I am brand new to this area as of December. Sooooooo figure this spring/summer will be quite interesting for me since I have been a Michigan resident all my life. Will watch your postings with great interest!!! :-)

Actually, that is Playa dust (as I was “on the Playa”), meaning it is from the Burning Man Festival which is held in the middle of the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada, the last week of August every year. Google it, you’ll see (if you don’t already know about it).
