Greetings from Ontario Canada - 0 replies
Thanks for the private anniversary greetings, Sharad. We had a really nice quiet day by ourselves. IT is HOT here, so we did not venture out. 43 years of marriage to the same woman is sadly something that doesn’t happen around here that often these days. My father always told me, “When you find the right one, you’ll know, a...

Has Spring truly come? - 4 replies
The temperatures are much warmer ( 11 degrees C ), albeit damp. We have snowdrops in bloom in the side garden. I have my dahlias started now (some are showing green sprouts already), and have cut back my over-wintered pelargonium plants. They should be good by planting out time – this year I am thinking early June (delayed because of ...

Happy 2015 - 2 replies
Wishing you all a very happy new year in 2015. I hope you are all healthy and thinking about a wonderful garden in the upcoming spring. Any major plans for your gardens? I will continue to work on my lower garden. Now that I am retired ( as of Dec 31st ), I will have more time to devote to getting it “just right” – as i...

I got up this morning, and was greeted by this lovely tropical hibiscus bloom. It is especially meaningful for me, as it is one that I planted from seed two years ago ... a cross between Cherry Cheer and Hallowe’en Party. I would show the bloom, BUT for some bizarre reason, I cannot send a .jpg file today, nor a jpeg file. I tried bo...

Harvest moon and brugmansia - 5 replies
The harvest moon has certainly had its pull on my brugmansia. Brugs like to bloom when there is a full moon. They release their scent in the evening when there is more likelihood of being fertilized by the luna moths. We were sitting out last evening and certainly heard the moths. Here are a couple of shots of the brugs in bloom The ...

variations and sports in plant growth - 3 replies
Weather often affects plants in interesting ways. I notice that my variegated brugmansia has put out an intersting sport – all white stems and leaves, in spite of the fact that the main stem and leaves are variegated. I wonder why? Likewise, the weather has affected some of my hibiscus blooms. Some interesting variations. These ...
