Home sweet home
For those who live in the sunny south I thought I would post a few pictures of our winter at my home. I planted maple trees up the laneway from the road on 30’ intervales, 15’ back fromthe laneway. This way, when the trees mature I ...

Thanks
the picture was at our last home. We have since moved having bought a small hobby farm…....started the gardens over again. It’s been two years, three years this summer and the gardens here are finally taking shape.
I live about 70 miles north of Toronto Ontario, Canada.

oh ya…..............not much shade here. The previous owners were either not into gardening, trees and or they had no idea of what they were doing. I have since planted 100’sof trees despite the fact I will be a long time dead before they give out some shade <g>
Cheers

my philosophy is that if you don’t plant it, it will never grow. If you plant it and don’t like it, you can always cut it down. .. and build with it :)
When I planted my Canadian Maple in my front yard, my husband said that we’d never see the “tree” in our lifetime. It is now a fairly large tree… large enough anyway and it sure is a beautiful focal point of our yard.

I agree with you. I did manage to plant 14 Norway Maples, 7 on each side of the driveway the first year I was here and believe it or not….........theres some shade.
Maybe next fall I might have enough $$$$$ to hire a tree spade to relocate some trees from the forest to the yards?

Thanks Damocles
curious…...........why is T.O. the center of the universe. I take by the fact you wrote “center” instead of “centre” that you are Canadian?
I grew up just south of Detroit, in what is now Windsor

I’ve heard from many of my Canadian buds that Toronto has been declared the center(re) of the Universe.
I’ve been there, and expected more for the Center. lol…

Big cities never did much for me. What do they say…...you can take the boy out of the country but you cant take the country out of the boy.
detroit is a highly under rated city. I have many fond memories of going to the big smoke just north of Windsor.
Nice climate for gardening too!

Heh, you won’t win any points trying to flatter this dying town! LOL…
I’m a country boy also, through a series of events, I’ve been trapped in suburbia. My dreams are of a tranquil retirement in the Tennessee countryside.

Toronto—I think non-Torontonians think that it gets all the perks. It’s just a city. I hate going to Toronto – I’m a country girl, but when I do, I have found nothing but friendliness. I’ve yet to meet a Toronto snob.

MsDebbie
My guess is that you havent spent enough time down in the big smoke <g>
Not to hi-jack this thread but.
On a trip to Toronto down to the train station to pick up a friend, on a Friday during rush hour. At the time I had a dog, German Short haired Pointer. I had him in a cage in the back of the truck. some how and unbeknowest to me, the cage door opened and the dog fell out of the truck.
All kinds of people were honking at me and I thought I must have done something wrong. Well right down town Toronto a driver came up beside me and screamed that my dog was gone…...freaked me out.
In the end I got my dog back because so many people made a car chain gang, some on foot who followed my frightened country dog…..............I was taken abck by their unselfless kindness.
he was the same dog that would only crap on some one elses deck, the same dog that could sneak into neighbors homes, open the garbage cabinet and reek havoc.
Cheers

that’s what I’m saying …. you think “big city” but you get down-home friendliness.
No wonder visitors say that it is one of the best cities in the world.

Oh how I love your birdhouses. I started collecting them last summer but find them hard to find at a price I can afford. Love the chicken coop too althogh I wouldn’t be able to have one in the city.

I make them there birdhouses. Those ones you see are several attached to a post. I think there are five in total and most of the condos have bluebirds in them. Quite like the old weathered barn board and copper roofs,...............it’s one of my many forms of self help therapy. Kinda like gardening.
Once and awhile I make birdhouse patio lights…..............my favorite.
Thanks for the kind words!!

No pics that I can find but I am making a sign, for the front of the driveway and am using the same sign for a tradeshow in March. I’m going to put a post of “birdhouse patio lights” next to it, decorate with tropical plants and flowers for the entrance to my booth and will take a few pics to post.

Daughter sent me this joke and I figured you would get a kick out of it … :-)
Two guys, one old and one young, are pushing their carts around
Home Depot when they collide. The old guy says to the young guy,
‘Sorry about that. I’m looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn’t
paying attention to where I was going.’
The young guy says, ‘That’s OK. It’s a coincidence. I’m looking for
my wife too. I can’t find her and I’m getting a little desperate.’
The old guy says, ‘Well, maybe we can help each other. What does
your wife look like?’
The young guy says, ‘Well, she is 24 years old, tall, with blonde hair,
blue eyes, long legs, big boobs, and she’s wearing tight white shorts,
a halter top and no bra. What does your wife look like?’
The old guy says, ‘Doesn’t matter. Let’s look for yours.’

Hi thanks for your comment!! About the mint, do you think it would be easier to control if it was in it’s own container?

if the plant is contained and in a “container” it should be fine
