Let me start by saying by saying hello to all my friends from Lumberjocks.
I am an intermediate woodworker, a novice home refurbisher (by neccessity) and totally green to gardening. I have been putting off joining GardenTenders because I am really not a gardener, but I have to get a grip on this yard and I figure if this site is anything like the Lumberjock site, there will be a plethora of information and a lot of positive advice that I can draw from.
We live in Central Florida, sub-tropical. Our home is 76 years old. That is pretty old by Florida standards. The rainy season (and hurricane season) starts soon and without some kind of preparation, the yard will quickly become uncontrollable. The orchid trees and the raintrees(?) will sprout everywhere, growing up to 12" a week if I don't control them.
We definitely live on a budget, who doesn't, so my priorities for projects involve cost tremendously and I am determined to stay as native and "green" as possible.
We raise a few vegetables, hot peppers, herbs, fruits, etc., but also have a lot of flowering things as well. I am not good at recognizing them but am willing to learn.
