« Part 2: June 23 Update Part 3 of Heirloom Tomatoes 2010 series no next part

July 5
Went out this morning and picked the first batch of tomatoes from the gardens. I have here Super Snow White,Black Cherry and Red Pear. They all have a different flavour to them and they were all delicious. It was really hard to decide which ones make the best sandwiches between the white and black. The red is too small for sandwiches but great in a salad. There was also a few peas and green beans ready to pick so they are in the basket too.

Yum! Looking good, Bon. I assume the light coloured one is the Super Snow White. It looks like it may be difficult to determine it’s ripeness. I would be waiting for it to become reder. :) So…..how were they, in your sandwich? My mouth is watering just thinking about a fresh tomato sandwich. Lucky you.

Nice to see different varieties of Tomato. Is one of them more sour than others? They are looking so attractive along with green peas in the basket.

Iris and Sharad the white has a very mild taste to it and not acidy. The black has a much stronger tomato taste and would be great to can or freeze for cooking. But both tasted great in sandwiches. The red pear were really good in a salad because they are really small and bite size and also good tasting.
Iris it wasn’t difficult at all to determine the ripeness of the white ones.

last year we had some tomatoes that were so mild they just weren’t “tomato” for us .. it was fun exploring the different varieties though.
I can’t wait for our first tomato off the vine.. mmmmmmmmmmm

What a wonderful looking lunch you have in your red basket. Great job! I knew you would be as good at growing vegetables as you are at growing flowers. Your photos of the tomatoes are making me hungry….
