Relandscaping #14: Where are all my plants?

Plenty of cold rainy days lately, yesterdat the sun came out so I spent the day in my front yard. All across the yard all I could see were SOUR SOBS grrrrrrrr, any plant that was more than a foot tall I could see but all the others were being suffocated by sour sobs. So I carefully spent the next 4 hours pulling them out. Filled up a 240lt green waste bin again. Most of the plants that I have planted this year are still there so thats good news. 1 of the Grevilleas has some buds on it, so hopefuly flowers soon. It is raining at the moment but if I get some sun later I will venture outside and take some photos.

Rainfall #16: keeping my mouth shut.

It has been a couple of weeks since adding to any of my blogs, but good old Mother Nature must be reading them, we have had a couple of major storm fronts move through in the past week. Normally we don’t get too many but 2 in 3 days is totally out of the blue. Fortunately we didn’t suffer any damage here but across the state it was a different story. Plenty of cold rainy days as well, so not too much happening in the garden.

Rainfall #15: Cold wet miserable weather

I know we don’t get enough most of the time so I’m not really complaining, but we had nore rain today than we have had for the rest of June, 32mm today ,31mm for the rest of the month. I filled up my car at the local petrol station, when I came out of the cashiers I could here this very loud rumbling noise, I looked around big black clouds and then “ouch” hail. I ran to my car and sat there and watched for ten minutes. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera because it looked like it had been snowing. It was also our coldest day for over a year just a miserable 11c.
I know for some of you that’s not strange but for me it is not what I like.

Relandscaping #13: weeds gloriuos weeds.......

The sun hasn’t touched these soursobs yet so the flowers haven’t opened, if it wasn’t for the fact that I have filled a 240 litre bin 3 times with these I might appreciate their beauty a bit more. A perfect example of one persons flower being some one elses nightmare. They suffocate all the plants around them just by their numbers and ability to grow literally anywhere. They grow in the lawn, between pavers just anywhere they can even inside my woodshed and that is dark. So you can see why I dislike them.

I had completely removed thes soursobs from these 2 areas about 2 weeks ago and as you can see they are back.

As you can see I haven’t completed weeding this area yet but you can see how bad it is. My only hope is the more I pull out this year the less chance they have of producing more bulbs for next year.

Hibiscus #1: I have lost one................

Unfortunatley I have lost one of my Hibiscus that was to be part of my hedge ( Screen ). It was the one that I had moved from another part of the garden. It does however give me an excuse to go looking for a replacement ( like anyone needs an excuse). The only problem is finding the same one. ( Single Mauve ). There isn’t a lot of variety in the nuseries at the moment. The other nine are doing alright though every now and then a bud appears.

This was taken a week ago.

Can’t wait until spring when they will start growing a lot quicker…...will keep you posted.

Cold miserable winters day....................

Took the dogs for a walk this morning and it was a cold miserable winters morning. When we got home went inside and warmed in front of the fire. About an hour later I went outside and this is what greeted me.

hard to believe it was the same day, glorious sunshine, still cold bat the sun was warm.
Any how I actually was going to write a blog about the few plants showing some colour, other than green, in my garden, so I will add that to this.
Christmas Cactus, Easter Cactus or Zygo Cactus, what ever you want to call them most of the year they are just green, but at the moment…......

The last photo shows 2 new additions bought a week ago so they are not very big can’t wait till next year when they should be flowing all over the pots.

Average daily temperature of around 15c ( yeh I know thats not cold for most of you ) average nightly temp 3c – 8c ( yeh I know ) we are about to enter our coldest month.

Well it has been a cold wet week, we have had more rain this week that I have seen in a while, my tanks are all full and over flowing. Haven’t done a lot in the garden for a while, working to hard, been to wet and cold, but I am dying to get out and attack those dam soursobs which have taken over in some places.

These 2 pictures were taken at about 3pm, it is not usually that dark then. As you can see by the second picture the flash took over.

As I sit here it is pouring outside, the rain we were suppose to get yesterday was just a drizzle but now you actually get wet walking around outside. It hasn’t stopped for about an hour, all but one of my water tanks are full and over flowing. Some areas around are recording 25mm since 9am it is now 9:30pm and for us that is very good.
