This is my wonderful source of foraging. I’m lucky to have Amber Westfall living very close and have been fortunate enough to attend one of her ‘plant walks’.
Most of what I know about foraging plants in this area has come from her.
This is her introduction to her weed eating addiction :

Thank you for posting this video, Daltxguy. I think it would be very interesting to go on one of her walks. I am slowly incorporating more weeds into our family’s food. I think there are three major barriers to eating weeds:

1. cultural bias and the lack of alternative role models for growing and eating these plants
2. unfamiliarity or inability to recognize plants that are edible and nutritious
3. unfamiliarity or lack of knowledge about when to gather and how to prepare the plants into food that tastes good to us.

If we can educate ourselves to overcome these three barriers, we can expand our food choices to include nutritious and easily grown foods. For me personally, the third barrier is the most difficult to surmount. Do you know a good recipe book for preparing wild weeds into meals?

best time to collect is in the spring – so get ready ( the ground here should be thawed by end of May, I reckon!)

Excellent post, daltguy, I’ll be researching this kinda stuff more. I know of at least one “weed” in my yard that I plan to make use of this coming season, and that’s Purslane.
